LWPTSA Council Event Updates

On March 12, 2020 Governor Inslee announced that all schools in King, Snohomish and Pierce counties must close effective March 17 through April 24. Lake Washington PTSA Council is postponing or rescheduling all in-person events through that date. We are investigating virtual meeting options and will share findings. Washington State PTA has also provided guidance on virtual meetings. Please reach out to your Area Vice President or any member of the Board with questions.

Lake Washington School District is working to provide services during the school closures from March 12 to April 24, 2020. For the most up-to-date information, please visit the LWSD Coronavirus (COVID-19) website.

Meals: Grab and Go student meals for students will be provided at the six middle school sites across the district. Meals must be preordered here. The district is working on delivery options. Pantry Packs will distribute weekend packs on Fridays at the middle school meal sites. Please check the Pantry Packs website for the latest information in case of changes.

Childcare: Please take the LWSD Childcare Interest Survey by Monday, March 16 at Noon. Priority will be given to families who are healthcare workers/first responders.

Education: The district is planning for non-graded, educational opportunities for students during the closure at home. Educational resources with supports for at-home learning is available at the LWSD Remote Learning Resources website

The district is working on obtaining and distributing laptops and wifi hot spots for the students in our district who do not have these options at home. Here is a survey being used to help determine the need for technology equipment in our community:

WA State PTA Reflections Finalists

Reflections entries from 17 LWSD students were selected as finalists in the Washington State Reflections program. See the full list of 2019-2020 Washington State PTA Reflections finalists. Congratulations to all student artist participants!

LWPTSA Scholarships Extended

Due to the King County school closures, LWPTSA Council has extended our scholarship submission deadline to May 1, 2020, and is now accepting applications via email. Please see the revised applications and instructions below.

The Lake Washington PTSA Council is pleased offer 13 student scholarships of $1,250 each and two $500 staff scholarships. The Scholarship Program is funded by money raised at the Council’s annual Scholarship Basket Auction, by annual donations from the 44 PTSAs in the LWSD and LWEA, and by donations from the greater community.

Reach for Success Grants

Need some help funding a project or program that enhances or expands LWSD's curriculum? Lake Washington Schools Foundation's Reach for Success Grant program is now accepting applications! Apply today and you could be awarded up to $3,000 for the 2020-2021 school year. Applications are due April 15. Learn more on their website.

Graduation Pathway Survey Extended

Washington State Board of Education has extended the deadline for their Graduation Pathway Options stakeholder survey. This is the most important part of their data collection activities this year! Please share your thoughts: WA Graduation Pathway Options Stakeholder Feedback Survey. The survey will remain open for an extended period of time - it will close March 27 in order to get as many views as possible.

Office of the Education Ombuds Survey & Webinar

OEO seeks your input on how OEO can best use its resources to support racial equity, inclusion, and positive outcomes for K-12 students. The survey is available in 10 languages, and takes about 1-2 minutes to complete. Survey links: English, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Korean, Russian, Somali, Tagalog, Vietnamese. The survey is open through April 30, 2020.

2020 Washington State PTA Convention

Shine Light on Depression

Depression and suicide are hiding in plain sight, affecting more and more young people. National PTA is part of a five-organization collaboration working to create real and hopeful conversations around mental health. Shine Light on Depression is a unique collaboration of organizations committed to raising awareness of depression and preventing suicide among young people.

The 2020 Census

2020 Census Did you know children under the age of five are historically the most underreported group on the census? Reporting children on the census is critical in determining the resources they receive including public school funding. Join us and complete the #2020Census.

March Board To-Do List

  • Survey membership to identify priorities for the coming year and inform budget planning.
  • Consider providing volunteer recognition with a Golden Acorn or other WSPTA individual award
  • Recruit a budget committee to draft next year’s budget. The budget committee should be approved by the board.
  • Make plans to attend WSPTA Convention in May in Lynnwood.
  • Was your PTA incorporated in March?  If so, then your annual Corporation Renewal is due on 3/31. The annual corporation report is due regardless of your PTA’s annual income and is separate from the Charitable Organization Registration/ Renewal.


  • All in-person events through April 24, 2020 are canceled. We are working to reschedule or plan virtual alternatives.
