A Word from Council

Brandi Comstock, LWPTSA Council PresidentAs we wind down this year my heart is filled with immense gratitude. I am grateful for each of the people I have met this year, as we have all worked to support our community. Seeing the family members, students, teachers, staff, school board members, LWSD administrators, school administrators and community members has been incredibly inspiring. I am so proud of everyone for showing up and engaging time after time to do their best this year. None of us had ever parented, PTA’d, went to class, taught classes, or done anything else during a pandemic before! I am full of pride in the PTA leaders this year that went above and beyond for their school communities and worked all year to be a resource for their families.

As we wrap up the year, I am especially grateful to the 2020-2021 LWPTSA Council Board. Your service and willingness to serve as a guiding light to our PTA leaders through this challenging time has made a lasting impact. As we end this year, I want to specifically thank Anmol Bhate, Diane Devlyne-Thompson, Denise Ferguson, Lilach Geppert-Shapira, Sabrina Miller, Felice Nightengale, Chitra Ramalingam, Amy Robl, Sarah Rock, and Melissa Stone who will be stepping off the Council board this year and moving on to new things. I also want to offer my appreciation to the incoming 2021-2022 Council board for being willing to step in and serve in this new year of growth, which is certain to contain opportunities for patience, change, and rebuilding. Whether or not you are continuing in your PTA journeys we wish you all a safe, healthy and rejuvenating summer. Thank you all for your service for our students this year.
-Brandi Comstock, LWPTSA Council President 2020-2021

Superintendent Message

Dr. Jon Holmen, LWSD Superintendent

Thank you. These two words seem to have a new meaning and, at times, seem inadequate to truly express how deeply grateful we are as a district to all connected with our work this year. As we wrap up the historic 2020-21 school year, I would like to express a heartfelt thank you to our families, students, staff and community. We have all worked together in new ways this year to support each and every student as they worked both remotely and in-person to achieve success. I am humbled to have the opportunity to share a few words with all Lake Washington School District’s Class of 2021, in the form of a letter to our graduating seniors.

Dear Lake Washington School District Graduate:
It’s not a stretch to say you have navigated some of the most trying times we have experienced in recent memory. Seniors in the Class of 2021, you definitely have had plenty of content for classes such as humanities and current events. As you prepare for your next step in life, we can’t forget the journey you have been on.

Say Farewell to a Year+ Like No Other

Mark Stuart, LWSD School Board Vice President

Mark StuartDid you feel that? Did you hear it, too?

The strong breeze that sounded like “Wheeeewwww” was the collective sigh of relief exhaled by students, parents, teachers, school staffs and administrators in Lake Washington and school districts across Washington… and, for that matter, the nation. If I write that ‘20-21 was one of the most stressful years, I’d be understating the challenge, uncertainty, frustration and anxiety by at least a 1000x fold.

Coming off the trauma of this year, all of us realize more work must be done to help our students recover from “screen school.” We must also remember we still have students with personal or family-comprised health for whom the world may not change for a very long time. More so than ever before, the Lake Washington School District is committed to helping all students and families. Continue reading
