WSPTA Deadlines Extended to TODAY

Deadlines for all WSPTA awards and programs including membership achievement awards, Awards of Excellence, Student Essay Contest and more have been extended until today, March 2.

March 5 Membership Meeting

The March membership meeting will be held this Thursday morning, March 5 at the LWSD Resource Center. We encourage you to review meeting documents prior to coming to the meeting. To save resources we provide one copy per table available for reference, or you are welcome to print and bring your own.  When: Thursday, March 5, 2020 at 9:45AM

Kirkland Safer Routes to Schools - March 5

The City of Kirkland will provide an update on the Safer Routes to Schools Action Plan on March 5th immediately after the LWPTSA Council membership meeting at the Lake Washington Resource Center. The meeting will focus on results from the Safe and Active Transportation Survey, prioritizing projects in neighborhoods and around schools, and ID'ing what incentives to try out to encourage kids to walk/bike to school. The City of Kirkland is interested in input on plans from Kirkland PTSAs, but all interested PTSAs are welcome to come and learn.

The Lake Washington PTSA (LWPTSA) Council held its annual Founders’ Day Luncheon at the Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish on February 28 to celebrate its 40th charter year and the 123rd anniversary of National PTA. Each year at the luncheon, the LWPTSA Council recognizes individuals and organizations for their outstanding work on behalf of children and youth. Seven individuals and one organization were honored this year.

LWSD Art Docent Workshop - March 6

The LWSD Teaching & Learning Department is offering an Art Docent Workshop on Friday, March 6. Come experience two LWSD Art Docent Program value projects, while gaining practical instructional tips.
  • Topic: Creating value with paint and pen
  • Special Guests: Junior League of Seattle will share about opportunities for LWSD elementary schools to participate in the 2020-21 Northwest Art Project traveling art exhibit (formerly BAM Art of Discovery)

Padres Unidos Por La Educación with support from Redmond High School PTSA, Lake Washington PTSA Council and Lake Washington Schools Foundation is presenting a series of parent education talks in Spanish during the month of March.

LWPTSA Scholarships Available

The Lake Washington PTSA Council is pleased to roll out its 2020 Scholarship Program! Each year in the spring, Council offers several student scholarships and two $500 staff scholarships. This year’s Student Scholarship Program will include 13 scholarships of $1,250 each.

Applications for both staff and student scholarships are due by NOON on April 2, 2020. The Scholarship Program is funded by money raised at the Council’s annual Scholarship Basket Auction, by annual donations from the 44 PTSAs in the LWSD and LWEA, and by donations from the greater community.

The 2020 Census: What Does it Mean for Families?

March Board To-Do List

  • Survey membership to identify priorities for the coming year and inform budget planning.
  • Consider providing volunteer recognition with a Golden Acorn or other WSPTA individual award
  • Treasurer should recruit a budget committee to draft next year’s budget. Committee should be approved by the board.
  • Make plans to attend WSPTA Convention in May in Lynnwood.
  • Was your PTA incorporated in March?  If so, then your annual Corporation Renewal is due on 3/31. The annual corporation report is due regardless of your PTA’s annual income and is separate from the Charitable Organization Registration/ Renewal.
