Periodically we like to bring insight into what we are seeing in the marketplace for vehicles gaining momentum as the next generation collectables. After the very tough 1980’s for Cadillac with the 4.1 liter engine debacle, we are seeing an excellent interest in the cars of the next decade.
In 1989, Cadillac streamlined the de Ville and Fleetwood series while still continuing to offer the full size Brougham model thru 1992. This unique approach allowed them to retain purists that loved the decade old Brougham body style while innovating.
The Fleetwood moniker of the 1980’s became the Brougham. Cadillac had rescued this full size body style by using the Olds 5.0 liter, 307 cubic inch V-8 from 1985 forward. In 1991 and 1992, it also offered the optional 5.7 liter Corvette engine.
In 1993, Cadillac consolidated all body styles to a single new body that it carried thru 1999. Trim levels varied year to year. The Fleetwood and Fleetwood Brougham nameplates were incorporated into new trim levels. The 5.7 Liter Corvette engine was again offered in the 1995 & 1996 Fleetwoods. Any Brougham or Fleetwood with the 5.7 liter Vette engine is the most desired Cadillac in the marketplace.
What is amazing for all models of the 1989 – 1999 Cadillac to us is the power of the engine and the excellent gas mileage results for large, full size cars. Highway mileage of 25-28mpg is the norm, excellent for the period.
As the next generation develops, we have seen great interest and increasing values of all the 1989-1999 Cadillacs. Excellent examples are moving from the used car market to the collectible market. From the sporty Allante roadster, the Seville sedan, the Eldorado coupe, the de Villes, Fleetwood and Broughams, excellent low mile examples are selling very well. Since the values are still at the lower end of the collector market, it is important to buy excellent, original, low mile survivors. The most desired options are the 5.7 liter Vette motor and moon roofs. Leather and velour cars sell at comparable values.
We believe excellent examples of these cars will continue to increase in value and are destined to become higher value cars in the years to come. We have sold many of this vintage Cadillac thru our dealership and have been purchasing more and more lately due to this market trend.
