BOOK OF THE MONTH

Able
By Dylan Alcott

Dylan Alcott has never let his disability get in the way of what he wanted to achieve. In this fully updated edition of Able, which includes stories about his latest achievements, including Wimbledon and the French Open, Dylan shares his story. It's the tale of someone who's proud of who he is, who has a go, does everything with heart and soul, who always sees the upside and never takes himself too seriously. As inspiring, honest and funny as its author, Able proves that for every one thing you can't do, there are 10,000 other things that you can.

WAY BACK WEDNESDAY

Did you know electricity first arrived in Castle Hill in 1926? The roll out of electrical supply to the wider Hills area continued until the early 1950’s. It was an intricate operation to install electricity to outer areas, such as Wiseman’s Ferry, with electricity poles and lines being transported down the Hawkesbury River by a barge named ‘Miss Margaret’. The poles were then winched ashore and moved to the required location by an ex-army Blitz four wheel drive vehicle, as seen in these amazing images from 1949.

Want to know more? Head to The Hills Shire Libraries Hills Voices Online interview with two former BHSC Electricity Department employees for more detail. Follow us on Facebook to read more Way Back Wednesday posts.
