Countdown to Day One

View this email in your browser
Good morning,

I am writing today to continue to share key information that I hope will be helpful to you in preparation for the start of the school year.

Schedules are ready
Most importantly, I am writing to share with you the news that the Aspen portal is now open for you to access your son or daughter's schedule.

Key points about schedules
A few key points about downloading schedules:
  • Freshman students do not have student-level access to Aspen yet. But, their parents do. As we do each year, we open the portal to freshmen students themselves in the first few weeks of school. Parents, of course, can access their son or daughter's information - including schedules - at any time.
  • As a courtesy, we send hard copy schedules along to freshmen in addition to opening families' access in Aspen. They should arrive at your home on Friday or Saturday (8/22 or 8/23).
  • Sophomore, junior, and senior students and their parents are able to access their Aspen accounts - including schedules - at any time.
  • In an effort to reduce costs and conserve paper, we do not mail hard copy schedules home to sophomore, junior, and senior students. Of course, if a student would like a hard copy at any time, a member of the main office staff will be happy to print one during office hours before or after the start of the school year.

Portal Access:

  • You may access the Aspen portal using the following link:
  • Students' schedules are available for download in PDF form in the section titled "Published Reports".
  • Students and parents will receive an e-mail confirming that a PDF schedule is available for download.

Problems with Aspen?

I hope that you enjoy the remaining days of this beautiful summer with your friends and loved ones. Of course, please let me know if you have any questions between now and when I see you here at WHS!

Details on morning drop-off, traffic pattern

The fire lane, which loops around the building, is a key access point during morning drop-off for many families.
Ensuring that all students are able to arrive safely to school, it's critical that parents dropping students off observe the following rules, which we use to organize morning traffic:

If you arrive BEFORE 7:15 a.m.: please drop off your student(s) in the semi-circle on Nahatan Street.

If you arrive AFTER 7:15 a.m.: please observe the following rules:
  • Timing, limitations: Parents may enter the fire lane (the main, Pond-side loop that encircles the school) after 7:15 a.m., when the last bus has dropped off.
  • Traffic through the fire lane: cars may enter from Nahatan Street through the entrance nearest the track and exit on the southeast exit nearest the softball field.
  • One lane, no passing: Traffic in the fire lane is limited to one lane so that students being dropped off may do so safely. Please do not pass.
  • Semi-circle drop-off: Parents may continue to drop off students in the semi-circle on Nahatan Street.
  • No through traffic in staff lot: To ensure the safety of our staff, parent traffic through the staff lot is prohibited.
Though these rules are designed to alleviate some of the congestion caused during morning arrival, the most efficient and timely way for a student to arrive to school is the school bus. For information about the school bus program, visit
