A note from my highchair... Recovery is in the air and it smells like Alano Club coffee.
Welcome to November, or as it is known to some, Gratitude month. In my opinion every month is gratitude month. I look at all the things that I get to be grateful for and I see the blessings of this program in my life. Here at the Elgin Alano Club we too have a lot to be grateful for in 2019.
I was told that there are three things that are essential for recovery, Honesty, Open Mindedness, and Willingness. I must remember this when faced with a differing point of view from my own. The strength of AA is that so many people who wouldn’t ordinarily mix can let these differences go for the time that we are in a meeting. During that hour we are focused on our common problem and the solution that fits us all. Our AA toolbox has a tool to fit all nuts.
This past year seems to have been a time when people are so divided over so many issues in personal, professional and even recovery lives. There has been a kind of Eastside vs. Westside meeting divide in our town for a long time. You can take that into daytime meetings or nighttime meetings, which is the “Real AA”?, etc. There are some people continue to have a negative view of Alano clubs purpose/mission… and they tend to get vocal with their feelings without having visited EAC. We embrace an #AttitudeOfGratitude and continue to be grateful for every individual that enters through our doors and finds a seat at the tables.
Now back to my point. I am grateful for all of you who have come to our club and found some peace in this world full of turmoil’s that try to divide us. To those of you who have pitched in to make club events successful; we thank you! To those of you who have yet to “take a walk on the Eastside” to see what an Alano club is all about; we have an open house on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day that has a place set for you. Join us!
Our mission is to be here for the new-comer through old-timer; facilitating a sense of community for your small study group, sponsor sessions, social activities or weekly meetings. All of your volunteer hours and financial support this past year has only helped further those goals. We are grateful to be able to hold space for you.
Love and Service.
