It has been a busy month at pre school and we have been learning about different types of transport.  We have looked at the various ways we come to school and also investigated how other people in the world move around.  Through crafts we made different types of transport and even had a race with our sail boats.
In January we celebrated Children's Day and we made a special photo frame with our picture inside.  This was very special for the children as families cannot afford to print out and display photos in their homes.  We learned about how God loves us and our frame reminds us every day how special we are to Him.
In January we also celebrated Chinese new year and we made “rooster” masks to celebrate this.  We are so thankful to all our volunteers especially Miss Suzi and Miss Emma who teach our older children English for 6 hours each week.  These children are making excellent progress with their reading writing and number skills.
A big thanks to Adam Thornton who donated 20  brand new footballs and we have had a lot of fun playing with these.  We were able to send 10 of them to a small organisation in the northern area of Thailand where a newly formed soccer team was very grateful to receive them.

Our Norwegian mini golf friends are also our Hand to Hand heroes faithfully taking us shopping each week we know our food cupboards will never be bare.

It’s been great to see our kids return after the Christmas break and they are all safe and well.  As we were able to provide families with extra food before the break none of the children have returned malnourished.  We celebrated Children’s day and Chines new year with the focus being God loves us and cares for us.  We don’t need to rely on good luck when  we know we can pray and God hears us.

We are very thankful to the nurses at the Banglamung hospital who allow us to visit each week to pray for and help the sick children.  Miss Lolly, Khun Jiap and Khun Somai are an awesome team who go faithfully every week.  The nurses were blessed with a new year cake ... thanks Miss Lolly.

We were blessed to have a team from Church on the Rock from Texakana who arrived early January before school started.   The staff were blessed by the teaching and personal ministry which
encouraged and strengthened us all.  Our friends Joseph and Angel also came from India and it was a great opportunity for us to share our love and skills with each other.  Joseph now has a new website  so check it out and maybe you too can partner with him.
Vicki and Ron enthusiastically helped with everything ... even learning new skills on the job.  They blessed us so much with everything from pre school to face painting, prayer ministry and so much more.

The students at Hand to Hand were blessed with a day of fun activities at the Regent’s International school with their grade 3 buddies.  There was time for cooking and playing, sharing ideas and creating things together.
Every month we will be having an appeal for items we use for Hand to Hand.  In January our goal was to receive 100 bags of pampers  but we were blown away by the generosity of people from all over the world and we received 149 packs.  The month of February our aim is to collect 500 of each of the following items...rice noodles, mama noodles, fish sauce, oil, salt and tins of sardines.  We need these items in a small size as they make up the weekly food distribution which we take to the slum.  Our Hand to Hand takes care of 66 families in 9 different slum areas in Pattaya.  You can give to our monthly appeal by dropping the items off at the centre or donating through pay pal or our bank account.  Details for making donations can be found on our website   In case you’re wondering in March we will collecting milk.
Every Friday we visit families in the slum taking food, medical care and blessing people with prayer ministry.  The housing situation in Pattaya fort the poor is at crisis level.  As new constructions go up the price of rentals also increase.  Almost on a weekly basis Government is referring to us new families who have become homeless.  Whilst we wait for construction of permanent housing for these people Hand to Hand has been purchasing building supplies so the communities can work together to build their own shelters.  At Nong Yai our rented land has gone from housing 4 families to 8 families in 2 months.   It is a blessing to see how these people work together and support each other.   The residents share their food, take care of each others children and this is a working model of what we want to see at our new housing project.
Sangwan is without an I D card which means he has no access to medical care or Government assistance.  This is a result of him not having birth certificate completed a DNA test with a near living relative late last year.  We have found his mother and in order to complete the process she needs to sign a document authorising Sangwan to use her surname.  The mother is being uncooperative in this process and is waiting for Hand to Hand to pay a large sum of money before she will sign the papers.  We are currently working with the local Government in both Pattaya and his home village to help the mother understand that legally she is required to do this.  If  she continues to be uncooperative our only other avenue is to take legal action against her. The mother is quite old and maybe in the early stages of dementia which is compounding this problem.
Thanks to Chanise and Sheila who have been teaching zumba classes in our pre school and slum communities every week.  It’s great fun and we are getting fit and healthy at the same time.
The churches of both Khao Talo and Goh Pai  villages are going strong with people even sitting in the rain to attend church.   In January Pastor Troy and Beth came to visit us and we took the opportunity to celebrate and appreciate our Thai pastors and leaders in a special ceremony.  We have been focusing on how to love each other and love God so the communities are friendly.
Pastor Troy also did some leadership training with the Thai pastors and he was excited to see how much they grown in their leadership in such a short time.
Baan Sairoong which means “house of promise”  is the name we have given to our new housing project.   In November last year we purchased 1 rai of land in  Pattaya.  Unfortunately the builder we have been working  with is unable to complete the project so we are currently looking for a new builder.  As no payment has been made there is no financial loss but we urgently need to find a new builder to construct 8 basic housing units.   If anyone has a recommendation for a builder please contact us on 0890936067.  Later this month and next month we will begin constructing the fence around the property, if you’d like to volunteer with this project please contact Margie on 0890936067 and we’ll let you know when the hard work is going to start.
We have a caretaker living on the property who has built his own house by recycling materials!!!!
