It has been exceptionally busy at pre-school, each week the children learn to read a book that they made themselves.  The book is written in Thai and English and with all the practice some children are now more literate than their parents….Education is the key to breaking the poverty cycle!

We have loved learning how to draw and recognise shapes in both English and Thai, and had a blast making pictures using shape cutouts.

The children have also been learning stories from the Old Testament and making lots of run crafts to help remember these heroes.

Our gorgeous Thong Kla was making so much progress with his health, gaining weight and he had even learned to swallow. Unfortunately Thong Kla died on 31st July as a result of going into shock after contracting a blood infection. A huge thanks to everyone who has supported him and our staff, especially the guys from TFI. He is greatly missed already but we take comfort knowing he is in heaven and that he is no longer suffers any pain.

The Hands of Hope Foundation and the Community of Faith Church came to help us set up a church in two of the slum areas. The people in the slums have been asking us for a long time if we could start a church in their communities. They are very excited and the communities themselves are responsible for helping to set up and pack away the equipment.

This month we have had 3 children at the baby center and we are currently working with families and the government to find long term placements for them. Our goal has never been to start an orphanage and we are glad that these children can be placed in families.

By the end August we will close the home so that we can focus on other areas of the ministry.

A huge thank you to the Donaldson family who purchased an amazing playground for the children. We will be putting this to good use in a community play area for many children to enjoy and use.

Our kids club activities have had excellent attendance and we have been providing the older children with age appropriate activities for them to participate in. In the past two months the young adults have been working on making a mask. On the outside the mask represents what we look like and on the inside, the young adults have been challenged to think about their inner thoughts and feelings and represent these through creative arts.

Every year an energetic group of students come from Canada to teach our children through lots of fun play activities. This year’s team has been such a blessing to us, coming every Wednesday with plenty of energy to spare and great new ideas.

Margie has been busy working with the Thai government writing the draft proposal for the guidelines for violence against children ASEAN.

We have been very busy working in the slums this month and were able to provide a walker for an older woman who previously was using an old plastic stool to assist her with mobility.  A big thanks goes to the rotary who have purchased 10 more of these walkers and walking sticks which we will give out next week.

With the help of our friends from the Hands of Hope Foundation and the Community of Faith Church, we were able to do free health checks and haircuts for the residents of the Goh Pai and Theprasit slums.

Staff from the Bosch company came and treated us to a day of games and yummy treats. They also gave us lots of donations of stationary and teddy bears for our sick children. Thank you for all your love and support and please come back again!

Lolly has joined our hospital ministry team and has instigated the use of hand sanitizer by staff and visitors in the children’s ward of the hospital. It is great to see the parents and nurses using this regularly since it has been made available.

The little 6 year old girl with cerebral palsy was given a suction machine from Hand to Hand that we had in our storage room. This means that she has been able to return home to be with her family rather than a special care orphanage.

The little boy with TB has been transferred to the Chonburi hospital and we are providing the special formula that he needs.

We currently have a little Cambodian boy who has suffered extensive burns to his 50% of his body. A big thanks to Bosche who supplied many teddy bears to make these sick kids feel better!

A big thanks to Rotary who provided us with the funds to get 2 new desk top computers. Our Hells Angels friends also bought another desktop and lap top computer completing the update of our office computers. The old ones are now available for use by the scholarship students.

Women’s Conference

At the end of June the annual  ‘Refresh and Refuel’ women’s conference was held at the Jomtien Baptist church. It was a great opportunity for some of our staff to get away and spend time with the Lord. Margie also hosted a creative arts, healing hearts room where women could come and connect with God through many different types of art mediums. It was encouraging to see so many women enjoy this room and there were great testimonies of God healing hearts and emotions.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated swimming costumes and towels. Our children were able to receive a 2 week intensive swimming program where they all learned to be water safe and some of them are now confident swimmers. We couldn’t have done it without Ray, Suzie and Lolly who all gave up so much of their time to help us.
Thank You Pattaya Sports Club!
