PUMA Update: September 2015

Some exciting news for PUMA users as we continue to work to make PUMA better - here is what we have been working on this year and what we have planned into 2016.
In this update:

Fleet Fuel Tracking in PUMA

We’ve heard from many of you that tracking fuel consumed by vehicles in terms of overall totals of consumption, cost and GHG emissions is very much needed, and we’ve begun development high-level fleet fuel use tracking in PUMA.  We accept data from card-lock systems, convert to consistent energy units (eGJ) and display familiar PUMA reports on consumption, cost, and GHG emissions.

We will not try to reproduce fleet maintenance software functions, or be a sophisticated telematics provider, but keep to the level of fuel purchases, and mileage travelled as provided by these types of software.

What we  offer is to consolidate your building energy use with your Fleet Energy use and combine them to produce a picture of your combined Greenhouse Gas Emissions .

If you are looking for a light-weight, high-level fleet fuel reporting system, let us know and we would be happy to provide a demonstration.

Portfolio Manager Integration

Portfolio managerPortfolio Manager is the benchmarking tool backed by NRCan (Natural Resources Canada) and created to provide Energy Star scores for your buildings.

We are pleased to announce that we have built integration between Portfolio Manager and PUMA so that sites & buildings can be automatically created and kept up to date with the utility data we track for you in PUMA.

PUMA is your utility hub, we collect the consumption & cost information for you and provide the analysis and interconnections you need.

Once in Portfolio Manager, your buildings can be shared with you within Portfolio Manager for refinement of building details and improvement of your energy star score.

With the link established, as your PUMA data is updated, your Energy Star score will also be updated. PUMA will retrieve and track your Energy Star score as it changes over time and enable reporting on those changes, and comparison with other metrics. Keeping your Energy Star score up to date is important for LEED-EBOM certification, and continued leadership in energy efficient buildings.

Automated Daily Data Collection for Submeters

PUMA can now connect with your submeters and for automatic daily data retrieval. This is part of our preparation for when BC Hydro provides us access to their smart-meter data, and is available for submeters that can connect with QMC meters. This includes most electronic submeters, including meters that were initially installed by Pulse Energy. We are currently deploying this solution at a major Vancouver office tower, and it is in daily use at Prism’s Advanced Energy Office in Burnaby.

Data is available as daily totals and is updated with the data from the prior day. An example of it in action is shown below. Contact us for a quote and to discuss the setup and configuration process.

We have plans to connect with more submeters types in future, contact us with your needs.

Planned New Features

We're working on new features for 2016 As always – we’re working to bring you more insights and refinements to PUMA.  Two visible examples that have been released in recent months are as follows:

1. Graphical & Charting Improvements

We're working on a graphical update this year and plan to show you a refreshed new look with improved charting capabilities by next summer.

2. Weather Variation Chart for different
locations and fiscal years

Our weather variation chart has proved popular, and we plan to make it possible to create your own for different locations in PUMA.

Bug fixes & Performance Improvements -- We are continually improving the performance of our computer-code, and fixing bugs as we find them. Thank you to the users who have reported bugs to us & please feel free to make further suggestions!

Upcoming Webinars

We have several new webinars planned for the year ahead.  Here are the next few on the calendar:

  • 14-Oct –  PUMA Daily Data Reporting Examples
  • 15-Dec – Annotating PDFs, CUSUMs, etc - using standard computer tools.
(Paint, Powerpoint – by customer suggestion)
  • 22-Jan-2016  – Using PUMA in your SEMP and Quarterlies

Welcome to our new PUMA Clients

PUMA used by more than 20 BC Hydro Funded Energy Managers and 30 Leading Government & Commercial Organizations. We’ve been busy adding services and helping more and more organizations get a grip on their energy costs. Some organizations that have begun using PUMA in the last year to manage their energy consumption, costs, and GHG emissions recently include:

  • SD#43 Coquitlam
  • SD#92 Nisga'a
  • Capital Regional District - in Victoria, BC
  • Allied REIT - Submetering with PUMA
  • Ivanhoe Cambridge - Submetering at Metrowtown

BOMA-BC uTrack/PUMA Partnership Going Strong

Prism’s Partnership with BOMA-BC to offer the uTrack program to BOMA members at preferred pricing is going strong, and will likely see an an extra boost from our integration with Energy Star Portfolio Manager. BOMA members can contact us or BOMA-BC for more details on the uTrack program.
