We are delighted to welcome one of the most potent and significant artists in electronic music - Drew McDowall, to our roster.

Drew McDowall’s backstory reads like a primer of psychedelic fiction woven into statements of the unbelievable, superhuman, and outright insane. Somewhere in the midst of the chaotic madness, Drew shaped his own unique sound, establishing total control and absolute calm within his songs and artistic method.  Crafting mostly instrumental tracks interwoven with a few vocal samples, Drew creates brooding and apocalyptic yet ultimately radiant electronic compositions which use his signature ambient ebb and flow to engage with a contemporary world that emerges from the disintegration of various mental, physical, and emotional terrains.

During the tumultuous '80s and '90s, Drew established himself as an influential force behind the legendary esoteric bands Coil and Psychic TV.   His impact on Coil’s sound became apparent as their releases transformed from an avant pop signature to a more complex and methodic electronic imprint, accompanied by even more abstruse subject matter and abstract formulations, leading to the creation of Time Machines, one of the most essential drone works of the last 20 years.

More recently, Drew found himself living in New York City where he began contributing to the local music scene and forming an audience as a solo artist, playing countless performances around New York’s electronic music haunts.  This lead to a fertile working relationship with NYC's Dais Records, where he has released three solo albums Collapse, Unnatural Channel and most recently The Third Helix, a superb record that reaches into concept, ritual, and immersion, in an exercise of unravelling the DNA of hallucination.

"(he) wields those elements like hammers. The result is cinematic, insectoid, and foreboding, even as it morphs gently from movement to movement in a fugue of skittering static and fractured blocks of noise." Pitchfork

Drew has presented his hallucinatory work at international festivals such as CTM, Berlin Atonal, Labyrinth, Dark Mofo, Unsound, Mutek, Le Guess Who and Semibreve. He has collaborated with Hiro Kone, Puce Mary, Croatian Amor, Shapednoise and Rabit amongst others.

Since 2018 Drew has been presenting a live reinterpretation of Coil’s seminal drone work Time Machines often with live visual accompaniment from Florence To, to rave reviews:

"this is perfect for Drew Mcdowall’s performance of Coil’s Time Machines. It's a record that Jhonn Balance claimed was an attempt to cause temporal slips; this rendition does justice to that statement, the drones are eloquent and lucid as too is the imagery by Florence To." The Quietus

"Performing Coil’s 1998 drone masterpiece, ‘Time Machines’, the pairing of McDowall’s intense sonic swells with To’s psychedelic, lazer-like visuals makes for a truly engulfing experience, and one of several sets this weekend that highlight how powerful a piece so structurally sparse can be." It's been a great pleasure to get to know Drew over the last few years. From seeing his exceptional live concert in Berghain last year, to last week in Athens where he played in a club environment, I find his music connects, it reaches into the divine, creating space for the cerebral to be felt beyond the physical plane.

2020 will see the conclusion of the Time Machines live AV shows, and the introduction of new material and collaborations.  We are planning a tour around early May 2020, and open to discussing any other suitable dates you may have!

All the best,
