January 2021

From the Executive Director

Dear Friends,

Let me begin with a big THANK YOU! Your overwhelming outpouring of compassion and giving in 2020 has deeply touched me and many of your neighbors living here in Boone County.  Research shows 89 percent of what people learn comes through visual stimulation; 10 percent through audible stimulation and one percent through other senses:  What they hear they understand, and what they see they believe. What I have seen in 2020 enables me to believe we live in a world full of love, hope, and empathy.

The Caring Center heartBecause of your generous giving, we were able to service the 20 percent increase in the use of our food pantry very efficiently. We were also able to increase the amount of food given and offer more nutritious options. Statistics are great, and they help us understand the broad impact we are having in our community, but instead I think of the elderly widow who gets regular deliveries from our pantry. She has no transportation and no family who live in the area. She enjoys the friendly conversations she has with our volunteers and staff, because that may be one of her only social interactions for the day. When we delivered her food in December we also gave her a gift.  She was so excited and shared with us she hadn’t received a Christmas gift in years. And, what we do is so much more than statistics. It’s about people. People like Rose, who thought that 2020 was going to end up being the worst year her family had ever faced. Experiencing a major health crisis in early November, she had no idea how she would make it through the holidays. But because of you all of her needs were met. She shared with me this was one of the best Christmases they have had in a very long time.

You never know someone’s story. You never know what they’ve been through that has led them to The Caring Center. What I’m most thankful for are the lives that have been touched during these challenging times and your continued support. Happy New Year!

Sincerely,

Theresa Hanners
