PAC Meeting -
Book Swap & Summer Activities

This Tuesday morning, May 24th at 8:35 a.m. in the Peterson Cafeteria, there will be a PAC meeting.

Please bring books that your children are no longer using - we will have a Book Swap (or if you do not have books to exchange, come and find some  books for your children!).  Any leftover books will be donated to Peterson classrooms.

We will also have Sarah Holtkamp, the Children's Librarian from Albany Park Library, come to talk about the Summer Learning Challenge at Chicago Public Libraries.

We will also share an amazing resource guide full of free and low-cost summer activities for kids in our area.  If you are unable to attend, but would like to receive a copy, please send a message to
the PAC to receive an electronic copy.  (Thank you to PAC Officer Mandy Bevacqua for creating it!)

Attendees can also check out books from the new PAC Library with children's books covering topics from bullying to health to the challenges of moving to a new country.

Parents will also hear about the budget crisis within Chicago Public Schools and what we can all do to advocate for our children!

As always, a delicious breakfast will be served.
Kindergarten Registration & Orientation

Do you have an incoming kindergartener for the 2016-17 school year?  Registration continues in the Main Office from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. until the end of May; you need to bring proof of age and two forms of address verification.  Click here to see the required documents.

Kindergarten Orientation for incoming kindergarten families is scheduled for Thursday, June 2nd.  The program will begin at 5:00 p.m. with pizza served at 4:45.  All incoming kindergarteners and their parents are invited to attend in order to meet teachers, see the kindergarten classrooms, learn about kindergarten, and help create a smooth transition for the upcoming year.

Please let any friends or relatives with incoming students know about this opportunity too!
Budget Crisis

If the forecast budget cuts happen within Chicago Public Schools, Peterson could lose more than $1,000,000.  This could mean devastating cuts to our school with the loss of 10 to 12 educators and a significant increase in class sizes.

Please visit to watch a short film showing the potential impact of these cuts.  You can also find contact information for Illinois legislators as well as Peterson-specific e-mail and phone scripts here - please e-mail and call these legislators' offices today!

We will also be sharing additional information about the budget at the PAC Meeting this Tuesday morning.

The PAC was created to help support the role of parents and the school as equal partners in children’s education. The primary purpose of the PAC is to empower parents to inspire and assist their children in achieving their educational goals.

Arabic Afternoon!

Join the PAC and PTA for a special celebration of the Arabic Program at Peterson on Thursday, June 9th from 3:45-5:00 p.m.  Come and watch student performances, create Arabic stencils, eat some cake, and thank our wonderful TCLP Exchange Teacher, Samar Abdelfatah, for all of her hard work this year.

The celebration will begin in the Auditorium.  Please remember that all students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Are you interested in volunteering to help with this event?  Please send an
