PAC Meeting -
Understanding Your Child's Academic Progress

This Tuesday morning, October 4th at 8:45 a.m. in the Peterson Cafeteria, there will be a PAC meeting.  All parents and caregivers are welcome to attend.

Do you want to find out about the progress your child is making in reading, mathematics, and science and how you are able to support him or her to continue to grow? Come to the meeting to receive a copy of your child’s most recent standardized test scores. Learn what the scores mean, and find out how to make the most of your conversations with teachers at the upcoming Report Card Pick-Up (parent-teacher conferences).  If you would like your child or children's scores at the meeting, please e-mail the PAC at petersonpac1@gmail.com by Monday morning with your child or children's names and grade levels.  If you cannot attend the meeting, your child's scores will be given to families at Report Card Pick-Up.

In addition, we will learn about ways that Peterson can help support your student academically, hear updates about the budget, elect PAC officers, meet our new school nurse, and sign-up for the Parent Portal, newsletter, and/or volunteering!

A free, delicious breakfast will be served, and younger siblings are welcome for this informative meeting!

Parent Information Sessions

Do you know of families who might be interested in attending Peterson next school year?  For those who live outside of the neighborhood boundaries, they must apply through the Options for Knowledge Program, which begins October 3rd and runs through December 9th.  We will have a number of tours and information sessions for parents throughout October and November.

Scheduled tours will be held on October 19th at 9:30 a.m. and October 27th at 1 p.m. Parent information sessions will be held on November 1st at 9 a.m. and November 3rd at 6 p.m.

Please let any friends or relatives, both within our neighborhood boundaries and outside of it, about these opportunities to learn more and possibly join our wonderful school community!  More information about the tours ad sessions will be available closer to these dates.
Childcare for Possible
CTU Strike

As you have likely heard, it is possible that Chicago Public School teachers could go on strike beginning on Tuesday, October 11th if a contract is not passed by that point.  Hopefully, an agreement will be reached before then.

For those who are interested in arranging childcare ahead of time if there is not an agreement, here is an extensive
list of possibilities, including the YMCA.  CPS is also planning to offer free programming for families in need of childcare.

The PAC was created to help support the role of parents and the school as equal partners in children’s education. The primary purpose of the PAC is to empower parents to inspire and assist their children in achieving their educational goals.

Volunteers

Are you interested in helping to volunteer at Peterson?  We would love to have parent volunteers, and particularly need volunteers at lunch and recess as well as in primary classrooms.  Please click here to read about the application process and complete the volunteer application.

Do you want assistance with beginning this application process, or have you had difficulty?  Stop in the Cafeteria on a Tuesday morning after drop-off for assistance or contact Ms. Janet Sotelo at
jsotelo46@cps.edu!
High School Fair

Do you have a seventh or eighth grader?  Please plan to attend the annual high school fair this coming Wednesday afternoon to learn about high school options.  Seventh grade students and parents will participate from 2:00-3:00 p.m. and eighth grade students and parents will participate from 3:00-4:00 p.m.

Please contact
Ms. Martino or Mr. Coleman with questions.
AfterHours

AfterHours will be returning to Peterson this fall, beginning on October 17th.  Forms will go home on Friday, October 10th and need to be returned by Wednesday October 12th, so be sure to check your child's backpack!
