Here's what you need to know today

Hello SLSC Community,

On behalf of the Board, I want to let you know we are very excited to run our program this year. I think everyone is chomping at the bit to get out on the water (me included).

I want to thank you for your patience as we sent out various requests for information and worked through the changing government rules and regulations. 

We now have a plan that will enable as many kids as possible to come to the club to sail, and do this safely, working within the Guidelines.

The key points that have driven the creation of the plan are:
  1. Only family members can sail together in a double-handed boat (at least for now), and
  2. The ratio of sailors to instructors must be kept at a safe level. Recommended level is 6 boats to 1 instructor for single-handed and 5 to 1 for double-handed.
This restricts the number of sailors we can have on the water at the same time, and based on the number of pre-registrations, we have decided to create separate morning and afternoon programs.

The morning program will run from 8:30 to 11:30 
The afternoon program will run from 1:00 to 4:00

Because of this, unfortunately, the Learn-to-Race program for CANSail 2 and 3 will be cancelled for this year. Given that there are no regattas planned, we felt this was a sensible change.

Because of the reduced hours, the fee for these split programs will be $320 per session instead of $420 per session.

The split program structure will apply to the first 3 Sessions only.  Session 4 will be our traditional morning-only program because not as many sailors are signed up for those weeks (and the fee will remain at $420 per Session).

The one difference is the CANSail 4/5/6 program – there will only be one program for all Sessions running from 9:00 to 2:00, as previously described in the parent handbook, and the fees will remain at $490 per session.

As you can imagine, there are more sailors registered for each Session than we can fit into the morning timeslot.

Here's the process we will use to assign sailors to the morning or afternoon sessions is:
  1. If in the survey you indicated that you were OK with the afternoon session, we will put your sailor(s) in the afternoon.
  2. Will fill up the morning slot based on the order of pre-registration, up to the limit the program can handle safely.
  3. The remaining sailors will be assigned to the afternoon slot 

    NOTE: We will keep junior sailors from the same family in the same slot.
Please let us know if you are able/willing to be assigned to the afternoon slot (and you have not already indicated this in the survey). 

There were a few people in the survey who indicated that they were fine with the afternoon, but they did not provide their sailors names. Please let us know who they are.

As we set the Registration to go live over the next few days, we will be contacting the people to let them know the status of their application.  

  1. In the coming days, you will receive an email confirmation with the timeslot for your sailors.
  2. BEFORE we process your payment, please respond to the email to confirm your registration FOR THE WHOLE SUMMER (note, the schedules may change in later sessions).
  3. Once you confirm your registration, we will process the fees for each Session.

NOTE: while your fees will be charged two weeks prior to each session, we will not send out subsequent emails to confirm future schedules.

In addition, before the end of June, you will receive more information with details of the Covid procedures and the NEW dropoff /pickup processes to will need to be followed.

It has been a busy winter/spring working through the ups and downs of the Covid waves, not knowing what we would be able to do in the summer.

The Board has worked hard to implement a program that will provide a great experience. Our goal has been to accommodate everyone and that everyone has a fun and safe summer at the club.

The Checklist Waitlist system does NOT allow you to go in and change your details. This will need to be done on our back end.
