Thank You From the Gift of the Season Committee

Heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated in donating to our community in need this year. With your support and generosity we were able to fulfill the holiday wish lists for our HCS local families. Donations were distributed to the families last week bringing smiles to grateful recipients.

Happy holidays from HCS Family Services and the Gift of the Season Committee!

Staff Appreciation Holiday Gathering

Our wonderful CHMS teachers and staff were treated to a festive holiday gathering on Friday, courtesy of the Staff Appreciation Committee. The lounge was decked out for the holidays and the committee created a beautifully displayed lunch for everyone to enjoy.

Thank you to Jenny Driscoll, Julie Rzeppa, and Marie Strimaitis for the holiday cheer!

Orchestra Makes Music In-person for Parents

Sara McNamara conducted the CHMS orchestra for parent audiences this past Thursday. Students from grades 6, 7 and 8, along with the Soaring Strings orchestra, provided a delightful evening of entertainment after a long period off from in-person performances. Congratulations to all the orchestra students for their hard work and commitment to music. As always, a big thank you to our supportive orchestra parents!

D181 Student Tech Ambassador Leadership Program

D181 6th – 8th graders have a week of January 3rd application deadline for the D181 Student Tech Ambassador Leadership Program. This program is a new D181 tech program available to students in the district. Ambassadors will meet one to two times per month throughout the year, with a focus on building student agency in technology and developing how technology is integrated into our D181 classrooms. A formal application process is planned to select ambassadors. Look for middle school applications and additional information to come from the district some time this week, December 13 – 17.

Applications include submitting a sample of the student’s technology skills and utilization in a project that they have completed at school or at home. Interested students can make use of the winter break to complete their applications.

Windhover Fun Facts

You’ve seen the yard signs and past PTO newsletter info about D181’s Windhover sculpture, but do you know any of the interesting history of The Windhover and why is restoration of this sculpture important for our community? Some fun facts:

  • Robert Murray designed the Windhover in 1970 and D181 acquired it through community fundraising for the bicentennial in 1976.
  • Robert Murray inspired artists like Picasso and Calder to create large sculptures to be enjoyed outdoors for free. Case in point: the sculptures in downtown Chicago!
  • Murray’s sculptures are at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden in Washington, DC, and in Hinsdale, among others!

Still Seeking Epinephrine Trainers

Parents and Students:

We asked and you responded- thanks! We have collected several already, but please do keep bringing in any spare epinephrine (EpiPen) trainers to donate for Health class. Health teachers would like to have more training devices (any brand) on hand to provide students with hands-on learning for their first aid unit.

Bring your extra trainers to the main office to give to Mary, Carmen or Debbie. Donations welcome and appreciated at any time!
