Just a Heads Up... 

School Is In Session Tomorrow
As you should know by now, June 2 is a student attendance day for all students.  This change was put in place to support making up snow/cold days from earlier in the school year.
CHMS Retirees Will Be Deeply Missed
At the conclusion of this school year, five CHMS employees will be retiring.  Arlene Berger, Nancy Costea, Vicky Freiberg, Joanne Medenis and Marilyn Bottorff have each had tremendous influence on many, many students during their time in District 181 and CHMS.  Additionally, they have touched the lives of many others including parents, entire families, and particularly their fellow colleagues.  Their dedication and positive attitudes have helped create the climate and culture at CHMS that fosters caring for each student first, and then promoting a love of learning by those same students.  None of these great educators will ever be forgotten for their dedication and commitment to students.  I want to personally thank them for everything they have done to help instill a lasting impact on the future of CHMS. 
Gym Floor Update
During the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, May 27, the Board accepted the lowest responsible bids from Dave Knecht Homes, LLC of Hinsdale to act as general contractor on the installation for a cost of $32,095 and Top Performance Flooring to perform the floor installation for $94,400.  This brings the total cost to $126,495.  Dave Knecht’s bid was at cost which is an amazingly generous donation to our school!  We currently have cash and commitments of approximately $120,000, so the gym floor replacement will begin in mid June with an estimated completion date of August 1st.  We are incredibly appreciative of the people that have helped us reach this goal!  If you are still interested in supporting the initiative we would greatly appreciate your support as we work to meet the final bid of $126,495, as well as cover the $12,500 in architect fees.  Checks can be dropped off to CHMS or you can log onto the CHMS PTO website at to make your donation via the Paypal link.  We look forward to an amazing ceremony this fall to recognize all of our donors and celebrate the new floor for the students for many, many years to come!  A save the date will be forthcoming! 

Reminders for 8th Grade Parents:

1.  The PTO will be providing a Jimmy John’s lunch to the 8th graders on Wednesday, June 4th after their graduation rehearsal.  The rehearsal will be in the gym at CHMS.  After lunch there will be a class photo, yearbook signing and they will watch the 8th grade video.  HUGE thanks to Mrs. Albano, 8th grader David Vachlon and 2013 CHMS graduate Jake Youngman for all of their efforts putting the DVD together as a great keepsake of your child’s time at CHMS.  All profits go to the Angel Fund.
2.  The graduation ceremony will be held Wednesday, June 4th in the gymnasium at Hinsdale Central High School.  The ceremony will begin at 5:30, but graduates are asked to arrive no later than 5:10 pm.  The ceremony will take approximately one hour and immediately following the ceremony there will be a dinner and dance for graduates back at CHMS that will end at 9 pm.  Appropriate dress is required for both the ceremony and the dinner/dance. 
3.  No school for 8th graders on Thursday or Friday!!!

Summer Reading Orders
 Reminder, if you placed an order for summer reading books they will be delivered to your child’s advisory by Wednesday of THIS WEEK.  Thanks to all that supported the Spring Book Fair and ordered the summer reading books.  Our total sales were just shy of $6,000, which means that $1,200 will be donated from Anderson Book Company to the CHMS MRC.  Thanks to all of you for your support!!!!
If you missed the order deadline you can order the books online at Anderson Book Fair’s website (, click on the tab labeled “School Reading Lists” then CHMS to select your books.  Anderson also offers over 6,000 other titles and CHMS will receive 20% of all online sales YEAR ROUND, so order ALL of your books 24/7/365 from Anderson and please remember to reference CHMS at the checkout.  Spring Book Fair flyer books can also be found on the Anderson website under the title “Spring 2014 Categories”.
Note: Hinsdale Central’s summer reading list for incoming freshman has been added to the CHMS PTO website under the 8th grade tab, as well as the right margin under “School News”.
Vern Goers May Shop & Share
 Thank you to those of you that purchased your spring flowers at Vern Goers during the month of May.  We don’t have a total yet, but appreciate your support, as well as Vern Goers generosity in donating 10% of all sales back to the PTO.

CHMS PTO 2014-2015 Directory Advertising

The 2014-2015 CHMS Directory will include advertising pages for anyone interested in promoting their business. Prices are $75 for a quarter page ad, $150 for a half page ad, $225 for a full page ad and $500 for a full page ad in the inside/outside back cover or inside of front cover.
