Mix It Up at Lunch Day
A national campaign launched by Teaching Tolerance a decade ago, "Mix It Up at Lunch" Day encourages students to identify, question and cross social boundaries. students have identified the cafeteria as the place where divisions are most clearly drawn. So on one day—Tuesday, October 28th this school year, we ask students to move out of their comfort zones and connect with someone new over lunch.

Make a Difference Day

This week CHMS students recommitted to speaker Mark Brown's challenge to "Change A Life" as they put pen to paper on how they could participate in Saturday's national “Make A Difference Day” for community service.  A big thank you to CHMS leadership, social workers, and staff in engaging students to not only think about the impact they have on others, but to actually take action to improve the lives of others.  Student's pledges, which ranged from making goodwill donations, to cleaning up local neighborhoods and parks, to giving compliments or even simply smiling at others, were written on paper hearts.  The attached photo captures how these commitments blossomed into a full bodied tree of hearts in the CHMS cafeteria showing the great impact that all CHMS students can have in making a difference in their communities.  Be sure to ask your children how they pledged to make a difference.  Thank you to all who participated!
