If you would like your student to participate in voluntary weekly COVID-19 surveillance testing (nasal swab), you can do so by logging in to SKYWARD, selecting the Online Forms tab, and checking the permissions box. A new sign-up is required for this year, even if your student participated last year. If you sign up on or before a Wednesday, you will receive a month’s worth of tests on the following Friday.
Sign-ups will be open throughout the year.
Families already signed up for Surveillance Testing:
Samples must be dropped off in the bin located outside the main office each Monday by 8:30 a.m.

Calling all committee chairs! The PTO is having the annual chairperson kickoff meeting Wednesday, September 22 at 9:15 a.m. We’ll meet in-person but we have a Zoom link available for those who wish to join the meeting remotely. You will receive your committee chair packets and the coffee will be waiting for you!
Not a committee chair yet, but think you may want to lead something? Feel free to join us, and we will be happy to answer your questions. Click HERE to see which committees are in need of a chair.
To get an accurate head count, email us at president@chmspto.org that you plan to attend.
Location: Nystedt residence @ 417 Canterbury Ct, Hinsdale (off N. Madison near Salt Creek Club).
We are prepared for rain or shine, but kindly bring a mask in case we have to be inside.
We’re celebrating both our new and our 6th grade families Thursday, September 30 from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. at Salt Creek Club! Please make sure you RSVP this week if you plan to attend. Guests will be asked to check in upon arrival and will need to bring masks to comply with mask mandates while indoors.
If you are new to CHMS or are 6th grade parent and did NOT receive an Evite, please email newcomer@chmspto.org.
See you there!
Help us recognize our amazing teachers and staff. We are asking our 8th grade families for donations of drinks and snacks to “Stock the Staff Lounges”. Sign up HERE!
Please drop off items Wednesday, September 29 between 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. to the tables outside of the school office.
The PTO coordinates this effort with donations from each grade level throughout the year. We will ask 6th and 7th grade parents to help later in the school year.
Thank you for your support!

Show that school spirit! We are looking for a student volunteer to be Echo the Eagle for the Rotary Run October 3rd!
Our spirited mascot must arrive at The Community House (starting line) by 9:30 a.m. October 3. A fun-filled and not necessarily graceful d181 mascot dash will ensue at 9:45 a.m.
Entire commitment will take less than an hour!
Interested in hearing more? Reach out to info@chmspto.org and we will put you in touch with the d181 Director of Communications.
Mark your calendars! The Community Speaker Series 2021/22 season first event is just around the corner:
Jamil Zaki
The War for Kindness
Building Empathy in a Fractured World
October 5, 2021 – 7:00-8:30 PM
Jamil Zaki is a professor of psychology at Stanford University and the director of the Stanford Social Neuroscience Lab. Using tools from psychology and neuroscience, he and his colleagues examine how empathy works and how people can learn to empathize more effectively.
In The War for Kindness he weaves together the latest science with engaging real-world stories, offering us a revolutionary perspective on empathy and how to develop it as a skill. He shows that kindness is not a sign of weakness but a source of strength. With warmth, wit and straightforward exercises that can be swiftly implemented, Zaki shows audiences of all ages how to change their professional, student, creative and personal relationships for the better.
The webinar is free and open to all. If you are interested in attending, please register in advance by using the registration link HERE.

Unity Day is Wednesday, October 20! As part of a national anti-bullying campaign, students are encouraged to wear orange on that day to show unity for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion and to send a visible message that no child should ever experience bullying.
