News from the CHMS PTO

Welcome Back-Excited for 2020!

Dear CHMS Families,

I’d like to welcome everyone back from Winter Break and to the second portion of our 2019-20 school year. We are excited to have your child(ren) back learning with us!

As many of us made New Year’s resolutions, I’d like to share just one of mine with you. During a mindfulness activity at the start of this school year, each staff member selected a focus word, and I chose “Value”.   To me, this word represents my desire to always see the good intentions, kindness, and inherent value in others’ words and actions. Therefore, I made one of my resolutions to refocus on this goal for 2020 and encourage others to also find their own focus word.

As we venture into the unknown opportunities which this year might bring us, I am excited to write that my wife, Allison, and I are expecting our first child – a baby girl! I did mention this exciting news briefly at a PTO meeting earlier this school year and she is due near the end of March.   As you may already know about me, I am someone who meticulously plans everything out and am working closely with HR should I need to miss any days.

I only have the best wishes for all of our families as we start this next year together and hope we continue to support, learn and grow together as well.

As always, thank you so much for your continued support,

Dr. Levi Brown

Best of the Nest Award January

Dear CHMS Families,

As you may recall, our amazing PTO sponsors a staff appreciation award, the “Best of the Nest” with a premium parking spot for the winner. This award continues to demonstrate the kind and giving staff we have here at CHMS. The incredible words that are written toward each other in response to the thoughtful actions taken are inspiring.

The first winner of 2020 is our amazing resource teacher, Jeanette Reid! Here are a few kind things shared by her colleagues:

“She truly goes above and beyond and teaches us how to help kids”

“I feel like I should write one of these for Jeanette every time because she is always advocating for kids and sharing brilliant ideas or ways to better serve kids…she makes me laugh everyday. I’m so fortunate to have her as a colleague and friend.”

“You are always putting students first and  advocating their needs.   Thanks for all of your support.”

“She makes me a better teacher…and also makes teaching fun.”

Please congratulate Jeanette if you happen to run into her when you are visiting us at CHMS.

Look for Eagle Eats in 2020

The CHMS PTO and a variety of community partners are joining forces to fundraise.  Each month, the PTO will highlight a community partner who is offering a portion of their proceeds back to our school. All you have to do is shop on those days and mention the CHMS PTO.  We have already partnered with Corner Bakery and Woodgrain Pizza.   Look for more great opportunities in the new year!

If you would like to help us with this fundraising effort, please contact Time commitment is minimal,  but return is great!

Endless Appreciation

A big thank you to Marcie Purcell, Jackie Anglin and the parents from the PTO Staff Appreciation Committee who hosted the annual holiday luncheon for our teachers and staff. The entire staff enjoyed sandwiches from Village Gourmet, as well as salads and holiday treats from our parents.

Thank you to Stephanie Hamman for coordinating our annual holiday gift drive which benefits local area families in need. Thanks also to the students and families that were able to donate gifts and time to make this happen.
