“Be Kind” Tip of the Week

Give someone a genuine compliment.

Red Ribbon Week Begins Monday

This coming week is Red Ribbon Week at CHMS – an alcohol, tobacco and drug prevention awareness campaign that is observed annually in schools across the country. We will be kicking off Red Ribbon Week with Steve Troglio, a well-known speaker and presenter,  who will address students on Monday, Oct. 29. His message is simple: You determine your future by the decisions you make in the present. He will talk with our 6th and 7th graders together in the gym, and then 8th graders in the cafeteria.

Please encourage your student(s) to show their commitment to living a drug-free life by participating in these spirit-themed days:

  • Monday: Wear RED. Put a STOP to drugs!
  • Tuesday: Wear pajamas. Put the idea of drugs to sleep and be comfortable with who you are!
  • Wednesday: Wear Orange and Black. Creep it real, make choices that are positive for you!
  • Thursday: Wear your favorite band/performer T-shirt and listen to music at lunch. Tune out drugs!

For more information and ideas about how to talk with your child about drugs and alcohol, please click here on the Parent Talk Kit created by The Medicine Abuse Project and The Partnership at Drugfree.org. In addition, we are also including a link provided by the Center on Addiction about the health risks associated with e-cigarettes (vaping).

Please feel free to reach out to your grade level social worker for questions or concerns.

  • Ele Santini – 8th grade
  • Kim Schnowske – 7th grade
  • Jenny Steinhebel – 6th grade

Also, check the conference schedule if you did not get your first choice as there have been some cancellations. To schedule a conference, you need to log in to Skyward. You will see the conference option(s) for your student(s). Click here for detailed directions about how to sign up.

Halloween Costumes at School

Traditionally, some students have chosen to dress up when attending school on Halloween. Please help maintain a safe and academically-focused school environment this week by ensuring that your child’s costume adheres to these guidelines:

  • Falls within the bounds of good taste.
  • Costumes/outfits must still follow all school dress code expectations.
  • No masks of any kind are permitted.
  • No weapons or look-alike weapons are permitted.
  • Any hair products or make up must be applied at home.
  • Students must be able to change for PE.

Appropriateness of costumes will be left to the discretion of the building administration and staff. Students will be asked to change if the administration or staff feels the costumes interfere with learning or are deemed inappropriate.
