From Principal Griffin Sonntag and Assistant Principal Joni Sherman:

CHMS New Phone Number Reminder
This is a brief reminder that the main number for CHMS has changed to 630-861-4800.  The previous number is no longer in service so please update this contact information in your records for CHMS right away.
8th Grade Graduation
Barring any additional days off due to the weather, we have set the CHMS 8th Grade Graduation Ceremony for Wednesday, June 4 at 5:30PM at the Hinsdale Central Gymnasium.  Doors will open at 4:30PM.  We have pushed the time back a half-hour from our original schedule.  We are expecting all students (including 8th graders) to be present for the full day of school on that Wednesday. 8th Grade students will attend the graduation ceremony and then return to CHMS immediately following the ceremony for dinner and a dance sponsored by the CHMS PTO.  Our activities will conclude at 9:00PM.
Please drop off or send in your registration packet with your child as soon as possible.  The deadline was officially this past Friday, but we really would like to have accurate counts of who will be attending this fall.  A reminder when paying your fees, please remember that you must pay for field trips, novel fee and an assignment notebook in addition to PE clothes, PE locks, etc.  As we are processing the packets that have been returned, we have noticed these fees haven’t been paid on some of the fee statements.   If you have any feedback on the registration process this year, feel free to contact Mrs. Galandak at, Mrs. Sherman at or Mr. Sonntag at .
End of the Day Drop-offs
Our announcements at the end of the day are getting longer and longer as more and more items are being dropped off for students after lunch.  Please work to instill self-responsibility in your child by helping them think about everything they will need for their entire day before they leave the house in the morning (or even better, the night before).   Thank you for your attention to this to help us not cut into instructional time at the end of our school day.

Just a Heads Up...

Gym Floor Capital Campaign Update
We are on track to install the new gym floor this summer so all of the kids can use it during the 2014-2015 school year.  We are currently at $80,000 in donations/commitments!!!  We’ve come a long way in just three months, but we need all of you to help to get this completed.  If you have supported this endeavor, thank you so much for doing so.  If you have verbally committed, please try and get your donation in by this Friday, March 7th.  If you are interested but haven’t given yet, please consider doing so right away.  In order to get the project done this summer, we need to begin the bidding process by early April.
The easiest way to make a fully tax-deductible donation is to click on the link to and donate via Paypal. Or if you prefer, please drop off a check in the CHMS school office (there is a box inside the office). Please make all checks out to the CHMS PTO and put “gym floor” in the memo line.  There will be a plaque put up in the gym to recognize the contributions and commitments at the following levels:
Platinum ($5000+)
Gold ($1000-$4999)
Silver ($500-$999)
Bronze ($100-$499)
Thanks again for your generous commitment and for considering supporting this project for our kids. This floor will benefit our students for many, many years into the future. Together, we can get this done.
Final MANNA Card Pickup
Many thanks to those who participated in our successful MANNA program that provided more than $3,500 toward 8th grade Washington DC trips.  If you ordered in the last round, card pickup is this Wednesday, March 5 th  from 2-4PM.  Contact Suzanne Austin, with any questions.
March PTO General Meeting
Join us Wednesday, March 12th at 9:00 am in the Cafetorium (MRC in use for ISAT testing).  Jeff Bean of Act on Bullying will talk about Internet Safety.  Find out the latest crazes online from Snapchat to Vine.  How can you make it safe for your child?  Speaker fee generously paid for by Clarendon Hills Police Department.  HCHS will also briefly present upcoming events and PTO opportunities for 8th grade parents.
Million Words Challenge Kickoff
Monday, March 3rd is the start of this school wide effort that challenges students, staff and parents to read one million words individually over three months.  After reading a book, users enter the book in an online system that provides a word count.  One million words equates to about 10 books.  Encourage your child to join the fun.  Contact Mrs. Duffy in the MRC with any questions at
ISAT Testing Dates
At CHMS, all students will take tests in the mornings on Monday, March 10 through Thursday, March 13.  If at all possible, please arrange for your child to be at school on each of these days well rested and having eaten breakfast.  It is important for students to be on time because they cannot join a test after it has started.  If this occurs, they will have to make up that portion of the ISAT test at a different time, thus missing instructional time.
CHMS and HMS 6th, 7th and 8th Grade Joint Orchestra Concert
