Summer Reading Club Edition!
Summer reading season is here and Bowen Island Public Library is offering a wide variety of programs for kids, tweens, and teens - in-person, at home, and online!
There will be lots of laughs in Summer Reading Club this year with the theme "Funny Business"!
Kids of all ages can drop by the library desk for their summer reading package
including a summer reading booklet! Read for fifteen minutes a day and earn a sticker and a weekly prize. Complete the whole fifty days of reading to be awarded the summer reading medal at the awards ceremony on August 21!
Kids who love to write (and those who need an incentive) can enter our Super Silly Stories Summer Writing Contest
! Simply write something funny in any genre, and drop it off at the library desk or email it to Nikky at firstname.lastname@example.org
. Don't forget to include your name, age, phone and email. The contest closes August 16 and prizes will be awarded alongside summer reading medals on August 21!
We will also be offering two in-library programs this summer:
Super Summer Readers
are kids 5-9 who love reading and fun activities. Join us Tuesday 1-2 or Saturday 11:30-12:30 for books, jokes, games, crafts, drama, and more!
BeTWEEN the Lines
is for tweens 9-13. Tweens help to decide on activities, which will include book recommendations, challenges, comics, crafts, and more! BeTWEEN the Lines is on Thursday afternoons from 1-2.
Both Super Summer Readers and BeTWEEN the Lines require preregistration. For registration information please see us at the library desk or check our summer reading club website at

Summer Reading Club reaches more than 85,000 BC kids every summer. The program is sponsored by the British Columbia Library Association, with financial support from Libraries Branch, Ministry of Education and the RBC Foundation. We are deeply thankful to the Friends of Bowen Island Library for providing funding for program supplies and weekly prizes.
Bowen Island Public Library is once again participating in TeenRC
, an online book club for teens 13-18. This year is all about time travel, with the theme "A Road Trip Through Time"! Teens can chat about books on the TeenRC forums and submit book reviews for the chance to win prizes, including Chapters, iTunes, and Google Play gift cards. The grand prize is a 16GB iPad mini, which goes to the winner of the "Continue the Story" contest at the end of the summer.
TeenRC is also having two online author visits this summer:
Marissa Meyer is the author of the popular Lunar Chronicles
, and the newly released Cress
. The Lunar Chronicles
combine science fiction with classic fairy tales Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and Rapunzel.
She will be visiting TeenRC online on July 22.
Cristin Terrill is the author of All Our Yesterdays
, a YA time-travel thriller romance novel. She will be paying an online visit to TeenRC on August 7.
