The next Literary Saloon
is Wed March 5th
at 7:30 pm in the library. This time we are “reading” the graphic novel Stitches
. This is the memoir of author and illustrator David Small, reflecting on his childhood growing up in Detroit in the 1950’s. It tells the story of his traumatic health issues in the days when much of the medical profession believed that radiation in large doses (the newly developed wonder tool of x-rays) could cure illness.

The Literary Saloon is a free public book club. Just call or email to register to attend, as space is limited in our little library. 604-947-9788 or firstname.lastname@example.org
From July 2012 to September 2013 the library held a penny drive as the Canadian penny was being phased out. Thanks to all of our generous donors bringing us their jars, bags, pots and handfuls of pennies, we raised $1000 and continue to collect pennies to put toward book purchases.
We have begun “spending your pennies” and are purchasing $500 worth of children’s books and $500 worth of adult books. Look for the Penny Purchase label inside the books bought with your pennies.
Teen Reading Club prize purchases
Bowen Library was thrilled to win a $500 gift certificate for the purchase of young adult and teen materials. The prize from Library Bound Inc. was for the public library with the highest number of teen reading club participants per capita in BC. We will enlist the help of our 4 teen volunteers to select $500 worth of new teen books. Now all we need is some space for the teen readers to sit and enjoy the books.
Bowen Library has a Facebook page. Look for us and "Like" us to stay current on library news, events and tidbits.

Our 2014 fundraising calendar “Bowen Reads” was such a success that we are going to produce a 2015 version. Our 2014 calendar featured 13 photos of Bowen Islanders – young and old – reading and has raised more than $2000 for the Annie Laurie Wood Annex project.
The 2015 calendar will include another 13 photos of locals enjoying a good read on Bowen. Look for the calendar coming out next fall.
