On September 1, 2019 Gene Lippmann, a good friend and a member of my former band, passed away from heart-related problems. I met him in 2004 in Harriet Schock’s songwriting class. Lorie Doswell, the third person in Tracy Newman and the Reinforcements, was in the class, too. Gene was a harmony junky with a unique, jazzy sound and the combination of our three voices was very exciting to me. Rebecca Leigh, Paula Fong and Annie Boxell were also Reinforcements as the years went on, but Gene always remained. He was a sweetheart and I loved him. Here is the first song we recorded, ("Night Blooming Jasmine”) which is on our first CD A Place in the Sun.... you can hear what a great blend Gene and Lorie had together, and how well they reinforced what I was doing. Gene's guitar work was terrific, too. He will be missed by me and the LA singer/songwriting community.
In case you missed this in 1974...
This is fun, if you've never seen it. In 1974, I did a sketch with Johnny Carson right before this interview --
(Here's the sketch: https://bit.ly/2m4hUX2)
and waited behind the curtain during a commercial, then he invited me to come out and talk to him. He put me so much at ease, making this a very happy and prized personal memory. Enjoy!
And in case you missed this back in 1965....
.. I did a kid's show called "What's New" which featured me playing folks songs from around the world. In this particular video I sing "Cripple Creek" and play banjo. Click the photo and enjoy!
My company Run Along Home (RAH) has been named best in family-friendly media, products and services by the Mom's Choice Awards. That means all three of my kids' albums are Gold Award Recipients! Obviously, we're pretty happy!
For you Art & Paul fans, HERE'S my review on the Sony reissue of their albums Songs of Earth and Sky andHangin’, Drinkin’ and Stuff. It was published in the August issue of Bill Berry's Songwriter's Square Newsletter.
