Immanuel - God’s Presence, with us - always
The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” which means “God with us”
Matthew 1:23

Here at the Diocesan Board of Education we give thanks to God for you and wish you a blessed and hope-filled Christmas.

A few words from Our Diocesan Director of Education;

The phrase “unprecedented times” seems irrelevant to say now; we all know we’re walking in the depths of uncertainty on a daily basis. We feel it in our bones, and for many there is weariness on a different level. We believe there are few professionals experiencing the impact of the pandemic in the way you experience it –your friends here at the Board of Education, hold you in such deep respect and thankfulness.

We have been so struck by the capacity and determination of school and Trust leaders to rise above and beyond the weariness of these times for the good of the children - envisioning what the present and future can hold and the difference that can be made every day for your children. Hope and fear, anxiety and joy mingle together, we cannot go back to what once was. We can only move forward together - not to making the best of hard times but by committing to fully flourish.

As we move through Advent, I was asked by Bishop Karen to share my favourite name for God, as a part of a celebration being shared on social media – I said, Immanuel – God with us, and I thought of you, of staff, of governors – of the amazing children and young people – and of the presence of God in all that you do.

I wonder? Does God’s presence have resonance with you?
I see His presence in your work all the time:

The tender care for children and families who are struggling
The hours juggling budgets to make it work
The robust conversations that seek and find solutions
The gift of inspiring teaching
The endless health and safety needs that are met
The lights on in school buildings long after hours
The celebrations which mark school life, however hard they are to arrange right now
The vulnerability of sharing tears
The joy of laughing together

God’s presence I believe can be felt through us - in our words and our actions, in our love.

We thank God for each of you; for your leadership and for your work – in the strategic and in the minutiae, in that which makes a difference every day.

With our love
