From the Director: Welcome 2017
Welcome 2017! It’s shaping up to be quite a year in Oregon and across the country. Here at Neighborhood Partnerships we are looking forward to working with you to build increased opportunity for all Oregonians, to protect the progress we’ve made, and to bring people together to think and talk strategically about how we live up to Oregon’s potential and the full potential of our residents.

Much of our work in the coming six months will be focused around what’s happening in Salem and the Oregon Legislature. There’s lots to do to make sure we increase housing stability for renters and increase housing options in all corners of the state. We need strong policy plus state resources to make housing opportunity a reality for all Oregonians. We’ll also be working to create brighter futures for every child in Oregon with our Oregon Bright Futures Fund proposal. Every child born in Oregon deserves to know that they have resources to help them achieve their dreams after high school. We hope you’ll join us in this work. Read on for information about how you can help us succeed

We know this won’t be an easy year, but we’re ready to work hard. We’ve already been hard at work with our partners preparing these proposals, and we feel good about the choices we’ve made. We at NP have been guided for many years by the principle that our work should be targeted to benefit those who most need it, with the assumption that if we do that, the policy will work across all demographics. We were thrilled to see Angela Glover Blackwell’s recent article “The Curb Cut Effect”  in the Winter 2017 Stanford Social Innovation Review that describes this principle perfectly. I plan to keep it near at hand to re-read when the best policy choices demand more work to build consensus.

Happy New Year all – we look forward to this year ahead with you!

Save the date for the 2017 RE:Conference!
Save the date for RE:Conference 2017 – October 15th & 16th in Salem. RE:Conference 2016 was incredible – thank you to everyone who participated – and we are already making plans to make the 2017 conference even better! Sponsorship materials will be available soon, so please think about how you and your organization want to be engaged. And mark your calendars now!

The Power of Paradox

Oregon is a state that rises to meet its challenges. Oregonians strive to be exceptional and to make sure that where we lead, others will want to follow. Oregonians want to live in a state where all of our residents can thrive. That’s the energy behind our Oregon’s Bright Futures work. We are committed to letting every Oregon child know that we have big expectations for them by opening a savings account in their name so that their families and communities can start saving for post-high school opportunities.

Read more on our blog here. Do you love the idea of encouraging families to save for post-high school opportunities? If you are interested in helping to create the Oregon Bright Futures Plan, please reach out to Jill Winsor at 503.226.3001 x118 or jwinsor@neighborhoodpartnerships.org

THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to the Oregon IDA Initiative in 2016! You gave a record total of $10,859,658.24. This money will help hundreds of Oregonians across the state build a pathway out of poverty by saving towards life-changing goals like buying their first home, attending college, or starting a business.

Please help us to continue this impact by contributing for 2017! You can find information about donating and tax credit availability at www.oregonidainitiative.org.
