October 2015 Newsletter

The RE:Conference is Almost Here!

You've heard us talking about the RE:Conference for months and now it is just around the corner. As Janet Byrd, Executive Director said in a recent post:
“Next Thursday the Neighborhood Partnerships RE:Conference will begin. Nanci Luna Jiménez will set the tone for the whole conference in the morning plenary. She will encourage us to bring our best selves, our personal histories, and our imagination to the work we are doing together to bring opportunity to Oregon communities…. I hope you’ll figure out a way to join us – to bring your best self, your personal history, and your imagination to this work we do together.”
We are all so excited at NP for the RE:Conference and we’ve already seen your enthusiasm on social media. Before we kick things off at the Salem Convention Center on Oct. 29 and 30, make sure you check out these links:

Oregon IDA Marketplace

The RE:Conference won’t just be a fantastic time of learning from industry leaders and networking with other professionals; it will also be a chance to see the Oregon IDA Initiative in action. On the evening of October 29th a handful of small business graduates will showcase their products and services at the IDA Marketplace. Check out the Marketplace vendors.

Housing in the news – and the Legislature

Housing is on the minds of community members, residents, and leaders across Oregon. From Portland’s Housing State of Emergency to continued work in Eugene/ Lane County, Hood River, the coast, and pretty much everywhere else you could name, we’re all working to develop strategies that will make both an immediate impact and long-term impact. We know it will take bold action on policy as well as continued dedication of money.

The Housing Alliance held several listening and brainstorming sessions with members and allies this month, and will vote in early November on a package to take forward to the “short” legislative session that begins February 1st.

Contact Jenny Lee if you want to work with us to create housing opportunity, if you have suggestions, or for more information. We need all of our voices and all of our energy to make a difference. Jenny Lee: jlee@neighborhoodpartnerships.org, 503-226-3001 x 112.

An IDA Data Roadshow Near You

We've had great participation and feedback during the first three Oregon IDA Roadshow sessions. We've heard from providers and participants in Springfield, Portland and Roseburg about how the IDA Initiative impacts local communities. But we're not done. We have sessions coming up in Portland, Bend, Grants Pass and Salem. Learn more and find times, dates and locations near you.

NP Welcomes Jenna Haley

Last time we shared a Q&A with NP's new Housing Policy Director, Jenny Lee (who starts Oct. 23!).  Now we want to do the same for Jenna Haley. Jenna will intern with Neighborhood Partnerships and work with the Housing Alliance.  She will also share her time interning at Street Roots with plans to bridge the two placements in strengthening outreach efforts for both agencies. We asked her a couple of questions about herself. Read Jenna's Q&A
