Programme Grants for Applied Research (PGfAR) Information Event

Are you developing, or considering developing, a proposal for submission to PGfAR for funding? We are hosting a free event in Bristol on 22 January 2015.

Professor Paul Little, Director of the PGfAR programme will be joined by staff from the NIHR Central Commissioning Facility (CCF) and a local PGfAR funding panel Chair to give a presentation followed by a Q&A session.

You can also take advantage of a one-to-one session with PGfAR programme and RDS staff to discuss your proposed study. Reserve your place.
New network aims to bring research to a pharmacy near you

The NIHR Clinical Research Network (CRN), in partnership with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and the National Pharmacy Clinical Trials Advisory Group, has launched a brand new online resource supporting a new support network for healthcare professionals involved in research and pharmacy.

The Research and Pharmacy People Network brings together health professionals from across the UK interested in research either conducted in or supported through a pharmacy setting. Members come together to share ideas, best practise and advice on all things research and pharmacy as well as lead and contribute to initiatives that aim to improve and grow the research and pharmacy landscape. Read more.
Consent for simple trials
The Health Research Authority (HRA) is seeking comments on proposed guidance on seeking consent in a proportionate manner from patients to take part in large-scale simple and efficient research trials within the NHS.

The deadline for comments to be received is 5pm, 28 November 2014. Further information.

Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Programme
The HTA Programme is the largest of the NIHR programmes and funds independent research about the effectiveness, costs and broader impact of healthcare treatments and tests for those who plan, provide or receive care in the NHS. The HTA fund studies via a number of routes:

EME webinars
The EME commissioned workstream has three rounds, with up to nine separate call topics per year. The following commissioning briefs are open for applications with a submission deadline of 1pm, 10 February 2015:

14/199 - Major trauma
14/200 - Bone metabolism including parathyroid disorders
14/201 - Inflammatory bowel disease
14/202 - Mechanisms of action of health intervention
14/203 - Applied research into mesothelioma
14/204 - Novel endoscopic optical imaging interventions and technologies
14/205 - Mechanisms of isolated traumatic brain injury

RfPB Competition 26 now open
The Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) programme is a national, response-mode programme inspired by patients and practice to generate high quality research for the benefit of users of the NHS in England.
Competition 26, which will include applications for the NIHR mesothelioma call, is now open with a submission deadline of 1pm, Wednesday 21 January 2015. Further information.
