RDS Retreat deadline fast approaching
- Do you have a great idea for a research project?
- Do you need to apply for significant research funding?
- Do you need a sustained period of quality time with dedicated support to develop your research project?
The RDS South West is offering a unique opportunity to researchers in health and health care across the South West of England. Your team could win a place on the Residential Research Retreat, which will be held at the Ammerdown Conference Centre, near Bath in Somerset from 1 June to 6 June 2014 inclusive. The deadline for applications at 1pm Friday 17 January 2014, is fast approaching.
The Retreat provides an opportunity for research teams to develop high quality research proposals suitable for submission to national peer-reviewed funding schemes. The aim of the Retreat is to provide the environment and support to promote rapid progress in developing proposals over a relatively short time period. This Retreat is open to health professionals and academic partners working within the South West.
New film for dementia research volunteers.
The NIHR in partnership with Alzheimer's Research UK, has released a new short film which hopes to encourage more patients and carers to take part in ground-breaking research into dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases. Read the full press release.Watch the video.
Programme Grants for Applied Research (PGfAR) - important and significant changes.
A reminder for PGfAR applicants to read the inaugral Director's message from Professor Paul Little. In it, he details important and significant changes to the Programme. Paul will be elaborating on the changes further in a podcast which will be available to view before Competition 16 launches on 3 December 2013.

New NIHR Public Health Research (PHR) Programme commissioned calls
The PHR Programme commissions research to provide new knowledge on the benefits, costs, acceptability and wider effect of non-NHS interventions, for example, prevention of obesity in children. The following new commissioned calls are now open:

What are the effective and cost effective targeted interventions for adults at high risk of poor oral health and how can they be integrated into current health promotion / improvement programmes?
13/163 – Mass media for public health messages
What are the effective uses of mass media to communicate public health messages to local populations in the UK?
