NIHR Research Funding -
seminar & support event

Are you planning to submit a grant application to NIHR? Places are still available on our free one-day information event on 2 November in Exeter which aims to help you improve your chances of success.

Come and hear Simon Goodwin, RfPB Programme Manager for the South West, and RDS advisers give presentations on what makes a good grant proposal.

One-to-one appointments are also available if you would like to discuss your research proposal with Simon and/or an RDS adviser.

NIHR webinar ‘Getting your finances right - from application to the end of your project’

The next NIHR Training and Career Development webinar will take place at 2pm on Tuesday 18 October. This will be an introductory webinar on the finance aspects NIHR trainees should consider from application and throughout the lifetime of an NIHR award.

This webinar is aimed at aspiring and current NIHR trainees as well as other professionals, such as those based in finance roles at Higher Educational Institutions and NHS Trusts who wish to learn more about best practice surrounding financing of NIHR training and career development awards.

Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation (EME) Programme - updated remit

The EME Programme bridges the gap between preclinical studies and evidence of clinical efficacy. The aim is to secure the progress of new technologies and interventions through early clinical trials and onto larger, later clinical trials.

NIHR have recently updated the remit of the EME Programme. Find out more.
Invention for Innovation (i4i) Programme

The i4i Programme is a translational funding scheme to advance healthcare technologies and interventions for increased patient benefit in areas of existing or emerging clinical need. The following awards have been announced:

13th Call for i4i Product Development Awards
Call opens                                                                                    9am, 2 November 2016,
Deadline for submission of stage 1 applications                  1pm, 14 December 2016
Deadline for submission of stage 2 applications                  1pm, 12 April 2017

7th Call for i4i Challenge Awards - Mental Health Theme
Call opens                                                                                     9am, 11 Jan 2017
Deadline for submission of stage 1 applications                   1pm, 5 April 2017
Deadline for submission of stage 2 applications                   1pm, 27 September 2017

Programme Grants for Applied Research

Programme Grants aim to produce independent research findings that will have practical application for the benefit of patients and the NHS in the relatively near future. Applications for Competition 22 are now being accepted:

Stage 1 Application submission deadline                               1pm, 29 November 2016
Notification of outcome of Stage 1 Application                       Early February 2017
Stage 2 Application submission deadline                               1pm, 3 April 2017
Notification of outcome of Stage 2 Application                       Late August 2017
