RDS grants workshop - deadline approaching

The deadline for applications to attend our Grant Applications Workshop is fast approaching. This free one-day workshop is designed to help you make your application as persuasive as possible and will be held on Thursday 12 May 2016 at Taunton Racecourse, Somerset.

NIHR Researchfish

NIHR Researchfish is an external system that is being used by NIHR to collect information on the research activities that are undertaken by its award holders. On an annual basis, NIHR-funded researchers and trainees will be asked to submit data about their outputs, outcomes and impacts.
The NIHR wishes to underline the importance of its researchers and trainees engaging with the system to return information to them. The current NIHR Researchfish data submission period is between 15 February and 23 March 2016. NIHR-funded researchers and trainees will be expected to provide details about their research activities since January 2015. 

NIHR is hosting a webinar at 2pm, Monday 14 March 2016. This explanatory webinar is for NIHR researchers who are expected to complete a Researchfish submission between 15th February and 23rd March 2016. This one hour webinar will cover:
  • an overview of what Researchfish is and why the NIHR use it
  • what to include in your NIHR submission and where to put your outputs in Researchfish
    (including signposts to resources for technical help)
  • Q&A session.

Opportunities to influence health research in the UK

NIHR research programme boards and panels prioritise important research questions for NIHR commissioning, and make funding recommendations on project applications. They are looking for additional expertise for the boards or panels of the following programmes:
  • Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation (EME) Programme
  • Health Services and Delivery Research (HS&DR) Programme
  • Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Programme
  • Public Health Research (PHR) Programme

HEE / NIHR Integrated Clinical Academic Programme - Round 2 Competitions Open

The Health Education England (HEE) / National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Integrated Clinical Academic (ICA) Programme provides personal research training awards for non-medical healthcare professionals who wish to develop careers that combine clinical research and research leadership with continued clinical practice and clinical development.
The second round of ICA Programme doctoral and post-doctoral award competitions is now open. ​

Clinical Doctoral Research Fellowships
  • Enables graduate clinicians with some research experience and aspirations for a clinical academic career to obtain a PhD whilst developing their clinical skills.
  • Deadline: Thursday 19 May 2016
Clinical Lectureships
  • Enables early post-doctoral clinicians to combine independent research in an academic position with continued clinical practice and professional development.
  • Deadline: Thursday 28 April 2016 
Senior Clinical Lectureships
  • Enables practicing clinicians with independent clinical research experience to undertake further research in a senior academic position whilst developing as a clinical academic leader.

Public Health Research (PHR) Programme - Commissioned call

The PHR Programme is accepting applications to the commissioned workstream for the following topics:
  • 15/192 - Interventions to reduce negative health effects associated with noise in the living environment
  • 16/07 - Outdoor green and blue spaces
  • 16/08 - Loneliness and unwanted social isolation
  • 16/09 - Community Engagement

Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Programme - Commissioned call

The HTA Programme is accepting applications on the following commissioning briefs, in the area of primary research:
  • 16/24 Biological response modifier drugs for rare autoimmune diseases
  • 16/25 Poorly controlled diabetes and outcomes of elective surgery
