Dating from the 1930's, this drink is based on The Lion's Tail from Vintage Spirits and Forgotten Cocktails which calls for Bourbon. This one will also test your DIY skills since it calls for Pimento Dram - an odd Allspice Liqueur (or Bitter if you make it per the instructions below). It's difficult to come by in the states, so your challenge is to make it yourself. Be brave. It's worth it.
For the Allspice Bitter, add to a small saucepan:
100ml Good Jamaican Rum
5 grams Allspice
Simmer for 15 minutes, turn the fire off and let mull for another half an hour. Strain off the berries and you're done!
Now for the White Lion:
2 oz. Beat 3 White Whiskey
1/4 oz. Allspice Bitter (Pimento Dram)
1/2 oz. Lime juice
1/2 Tbs Simple Syrup (or to taste)
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Shake all ingredients over ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
