This Saturday, March 22nd, at Roosevelt University, I'll be performing my Graduate Recital. This is in partial fulfillment of my Masters in Percussion Performance degree at the Chicago College of Performing Arts! This show will be super fun, here are all the details you need (and a few you may just be interested in):
Where: Roosevelt University, Room 1080
430 S Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL 60605
Even though it's a Michigan address, it's a lot easier to walk around the corner (past the Auditorium Theater) and then enter off of Wabash. Then you can just take the elevators up to 10. If you DO decide to enter off of Michigan, you need to take the elevators up to 8, make a bunch of right turns to get to the other side of the building, and then head up to 10. Once you're up there, room 1080 is just about the only room you'll see.
When: March 22nd, 2014 @ 5:00pm
What's playing: V & III from Nine French-American Rudimental Solos (Thompkins)
Saeta from Eight Pieces for Four Timpani (Carter)
Then, after a short intermission, TOTEM will be playing a killer set.
Totem Members: Anthony Jay Houston, Vibes
Aaron Day, Guitar
Aaron Zachary, Bass
Mitch Settecase, Drums
In other news, the new website, AJHvibes.com is up and running. Head over to get fresh updates on big performances as solo or with Totem or Potts & Pans.
Along with the site comes this Newsletter. Although I found your email address for this one, as a friend or family member, here's your chance to decide if you actually want to receive any more of these. Just sign up here if you would (and I sure hope you do!) Also, it's worth noting, I promise these won't just be a repeat of the Potts & Pans newsletter, so if you're already on that, you'll want to sign up here as well :D
And you can also simply respond to this email and ask me to put you on the list, and I'll take care of the subscription for you!
GLSF is going to be HUGE this year. We've added a mass band performance to the evening concert (8:00pm) which means we'll have 80+ Steelpans performaning AT ONCE! You do NOT want to miss this. The day is full of great music. The Clinics in the morning (we have 6 bands from around the Midwest coming to work with our guest artists, and perform) start the day. The afternoon has workshops given by the Guest Artists that discuss musicianship, groove, improvisation, and more. These are great for ANY musician, not just pan players. Also, if a non-pan instrumentalist wants some feedback on their improvisation, they can sign up as a soloist HERE for a time slot with a Guest Artist. Plenty of more info, so check us out:
I'll be playing at the Jazz Showcase this monday with my Brazillian Combo from CCPA. Show starts at 7:30!
Pipes and Cigars!
May is an exciting month! Potts & Pans will be playing at the opening night for the Chicago Pipe Show, and then Totem will be performing in the Iwan Ries Lounge for the May Cigar Society Event. Stay Tuned for more details!
