November Update

Rain, Rain Go Away

Well the cricket has started and unfortunately so has the rain. All teams are playing great cricket, with all boys teams currently in the four, and the girls just outside.

Let's hope we get a chance for some cricket this weekend.
In this update we'll take  a look at:
  • first family night of the year
  • child safety officer
  • our new podcast
  • junior pathway
  • cricket blast
  • holiday training camp
  • merchandise

Family Night - Nov 16th

Come on down to Our first family spit roast social night for the season. Our first opportunity to have the whole club together, for a great family night.
It’s on Saturday night November 16th. Don’t forget to put it in your calendar.

Have a listen to your coaches/captains talk about all the teams from under 10s to Seniors and right through to our Ladies and inaugural girls team.

Come meet and have a chat and a laugh with other families/players throughout the whole club.

We are looking for families to make/donate a salad, coleslaw etc. (put your name under the bowl so we can get it back to you). Can you please leave what type of salad you will be bringing in the comments below.

Cost for dinner is $10per person or $20 per family.
Looking forward to seeing this great club come together.

Calendar reminders.

Child Safety Officer - Dianne Kelly

The Norwood Cricket Club is pleased to announce that Dianne Kelly is our new Child Safety Officer.

This is an important step for the club, ensuring it remains a safe place for our most vulnerable. It is also in keeping with Cricket Australia's Policy for Safeguarding Children and Young People. You can read more about the policy here

Di will be the first point of contact should an incident with a young person arise. Amongst other duties Di will also ensure that everyone all relevant people at the club have their working with children checks.

You may see some posters around the rooms that have a picture of Di and how to contact her. Di will also continue to team manage the under 12/3, make sure to say hello to Di when you spot her around the club.

New Podcast - Norwood Long Room

We as a club are always looking at new ways we can keep you informed. Our new podcast will hopefully also do that in an entertaining way.

Each week(ish) we'll be releasing a new episode, where Poison and Beags take us through upcoming events, latest results and chat with a special guest.

Episode one - with senior coach Sean de Kretser
We catch up on results and hear how a young Sean faced down a tearaway quick

Episode two - with club legend and senior secretary Bruce Sansom
Bruce provides an insight into what is was like playing against WG Grace and other stories

Junior Pathway

Norwood Juniors continues to prove a destination club for cricketers wanting to reach the highest level possible. This is inline with club coach Sean de Kretser's view, of supporting our juniors to play at higher levels, while making the club a place they'll want to return to later in their cricketing careers. (make sure to listen to the podcast for a more eloquent take on this)

This week former Norwood junior Wil Parker was named captain of the Victorian Metro under 19s.

Other announcements this season include:
Under 16 boys Gabe Lawson and Max Parker made the Bayswater Craig shield squad and Kyan Brasher the Croydon Craig Shield

Under 14 boys Bailey O’Riley, Kenhai Patel and Archie Gibson named in the Youth Premiere League Under 14 Boys. While James Menzies, Harry Sheers, Ben Harwood and Nathan Flinn made the RDCA Russell Alan shield.

Harry Sheers also made the u12 Victorian School Boy team.

We're super proud of these kids and wish them the best in the upcoming games.
Cricket Blast

Our Cricket Blast program has now started on Friday nights.

Welcome to all our new families.

Still thinking of joining up? It's not too late, register here.

Holiday training camp

First XI captain Sam Storey will again be looking to run a cricket camp in mid January.

Typically this camp provides several days of specialist one on one coaching for junior cricketers.

Stay tuned for more information.

After a new training top, hoodie, shorts or cap?

Check out the team app to order merchandise online. Otherwise drop down 7pm on a Thursday night to check out what we have stock.

The merchandise room is located underneath the social rooms, next to the outdoor bar.

Note: a little reminder not to put your playing/training tops in your cricket bag, all that velcro does nasty things.
