Excursions and Returns:
Meditations on Making, and the Maker
Shamina Senaratne

Even if we don’t make things, we make our world views, make our selves and our communities, assemble and polish our identities, make meaning and create relationships, knit and weave and stitch our worlds together in the gathering of our layered experiences and interpretations. We seek histories and geography to root ourselves, guard memories and points of view, identify with tribes and communities, take solitary walks to hear ourselves think.
These works are a collection of reflections and intuitions on the path to wholeness, peace, and inhabiting a world that supports the evolution of a wisdom-based culture. For each series or installation, interacting with the intrinsic nature of the chosen materials, has inspired the works.

Come celebrate the opening show of the season and FibreWorks’ 10th anniversary of exhibitions.

No Joke - Saturday, April 1, 2017

Metro Vancouver folk, are you interested in carpooling for a day trip to the Sunshine Coast for the opening of Shamina’s exhibit? Plan on catching either a 10:15 or 11:30 ferry from Horseshoe Bay. Returning on a late afternoon ferry. Perhaps a stop or two along the way time permitting.
Specific arrangements will be made between those who hope to attend. If you are interested, please contact Thomas and indicate if you need a ride or have a car, and if you can meet at Horseshoe Bay or need to carpool there.
Please indicate your interest ASAP so that the group can plan ahead.

fibre arts by Catherine Nicholls & Anni Hunt

Inspired by the words of the eminent artist Emily Carr, Anni Hunt and Catherine Nicholls explore the wonders of the West Coast rain forest. In this all-new exhibition these textile artists present their own observations and feelings for the stunning forest landscape. Using natural materials as inspiration and media has lead these two to listen carefully to the “whisperings" of the forest and record what they hear.

Dawn Michelle Russell:
Thirteen to Zero: exploring sustainable design

13 to 0 is not a sports score–it is an exploration of waste reduction in garment design by local textile artist Dawn Michelle Russell.
Thirteen to Zero is an exploration of moving from minimal waste, a thirteen fabric scrap garment design to no waste, an enhanced commitment to mindful, zero waste design.
Thirteen to Zero brings this awareness into sharp focus by visually challenging the ‘fast fashion’ industry that we consider the norm.
