When we develop one side of our body and ignore the other, an imbalance results that can eventually cause pain. If you're like me, you stand mostly on one leg while the weaker leg spirals in and the spine shifts and twists to compensate. I'm now re-integrating my weak side by building my outward (external) hip rotators.
The same is true of our inner being. When an imbalance occurs, healing comes from reintegrating whatever was lost. This is how I first came to bodywork and yoga. After living in my mind for years as a philosophy professor, I discovered that I needed to reintegrate other sides of myself.

One thing I’m learning as I age is that I can no longer live by effort alone. It's crucial to value and set aside restorative time. Athough the voice in my head says I can't afford to do that, in reality I do more and better work and have better ideas when work is balanced with sleep, nature, yoga, reading, and time with loved ones.
