Channel Management Workshop

In the modern world our business is being generated from a multitude of sources. Reservations come in via the OTA’s, the GDS, Tour Operators, Travel Agents, hotel website and even occasionally by phone. But how to manage all these various channels, how to expand your yield over these various mediums. To demystify channel management we have invited Alex Brown, a senior Executive with Siteminder – to facilitate a workshop on Tuesday July 19th from 9.00am to 4.00pm at the Halcyon Cove by Rex Resorts. This workshop will give you a clear overview of the importance of each channel, how to manage them and how to maximise your reservation mix.

The cost is EC$350.00 per person for AHTA members and EC$500.00 for non-members.

Sandals Corporate University awards $70,000 in scholarships to $70,000 in scholarships to staff
Thirty-six hospitality industry workers will further their education with the help of their employer, Sandals Grande Antigua, through the Resort Chain’s Sandals Corporate University (SCU). The team talents have received almost $70,000 in combined scholarship grants as they pursue everything from Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) subjects to Associate Degrees.
Annually, the SCU makes scholarships available to Sandals team talents throughout the resort chain across Caribbean. This year, EC$69,845.20 was awarded to talents in Antigua alone. Full story here

Tourism Minister Asot Michael sets a course for the Industry’s success

In a significant speech on the challenges facing tourism in Antigua and Barbuda, Tourism Minister, Asot Michael, has drawn attention to stiff competition that the industry faces, especially from a burgeoning Cuba.
Minister Michael was speaking at the graduation of the 2016 students of the Hotel and Tourism Training Institute.
The Minister warned the graduands that “the tourism business particularly is highly competitive and it is getting more competitive every day”.  He said “Ours is not the only country that relies on tourism for our economic growth and social welfare. The competition is intense”.  And, he added: “Other destinations are increasing the number of their hotels and resorts, and they are fighting every day to diversify their tourism markets and to multiply the airplanes and cruise ships that land in their countries”. CHTA collaborates with KPMG on benchmarking study to assess hotel industry's performance

Hoteliers to Get Insight into Competitive Financial Comparisons

Hoteliers participating in KPMG's 2016 Caribbean Resort Benchmarking Survey will gain valuable insight by comparing their own financial performance against the industry's norm in the region. KPMG, in collaboration with the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA), has launched the 2016 survey, designed to help owners, operators, lenders and investors better understand the profile and performance of their Caribbean resorts.

The 2016 survey looks to build on the success of past surveys and provide additional insight into the impact of the economic environment on the recent and forecasted future financial performance of Caribbean resorts.
