The Antigua Hotels and Tourist Association (AHTA) in collaboration with the Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority (ABTA) would like to invite you to the third annual “SHOWCASE ANTIGUA BARBUDA”  to be held on Saturday the 21st May 2016 at the Jolly Beach Resort & Spa. This event provides one full day of pre-scheduled appointment sessions and activities where wholesalers and tour operators from all our key source markets can meet and conduct business with regional suppliers in the tourism industry.
The ABTA will be bringing in product managers from tour operators in the UK and Europe and we have also invited most of the major tour operators in North America as well all the major OTAs.
We have changed the registration process this year reverting to an electronic online appointment scheduling system. To register please click here and follow the simple instructions. Your booth registration will now include two delegates. For those properties that have two distinct marketing teams for Europe and North America we have introduced a package that allows two booths and two schedules of appointments and includes four delegates. Caribbean Tourism Officials gather in Antigua and Barbuda to address business and service excellence in the industry

As Caribbean tourism rebounds, tourism practitioners within the region are making their next strategic move by focussing on enhancing the quality of their product, and developing a strong culture of service excellence.
The Secretary General of the Caribbean Tourism Organization, Hugh Riley and other well-known Caribbean tourism officials will meet in Antigua and Barbuda to address the theme ‘Making Excellence a Habit: Service Loyalty and Profitability in Caribbean Tourism’ at the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s  8th annual Tourism Human Resources Conference, taking place from May 11 – 13, 2016.
Collaborators, the Antigua and Barbuda Ministry of Tourism, Economic Development, Investment & Energy, and the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, are voicing their support for the three day tourism gathering being held in Antigua for the first time. More details here

Antigua & Barbuda educates agents at the CCRA Home Based Travel Agents Forum
Over the last couple of days the AHTA and the ABTA have been meeting with the over 1000 home based travel agents at the CCRA Forum at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas. During the exhibition sessions the agents passed by the Antigua & Barbuda to learn more about the destination and the hotels and attractions that we have to offer. Agents entered to win a three day all-inclusive stay at the St James's Club and a 3 day all-inclusive stay at Bluewaters.
Antigua and Barbuda represents at ITB Travel Tradeshow's 50th Anniversary
Antigua and Barbuda had a major presence at ITB Berlin, one of the world’s largest trade and consumer fairs, held in Berlin, Germany from March 9 - March 13, 2016.
This year, the show attracted a record number of visitors as it celebrated its 50th anniversary. Approximately 180,000 visitors interested in being part of the celebrations and meeting with destination representatives, were reported as having attended.
The Antigua and Barbuda delegation led by the Chairman of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority - Mr. Rohan Hector and the newly appointed High Commissioner for Antigua and Barbuda, H.E. Karen-Mae Hill engaged in productive meetings with partners Condor, DER Tour, Meiers and Thomas Cook. Full story here
Canadian Product launches
The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Office of Canada will be participating in a series of Tour Operator Product Launches and Road Shows over the next couple of months. Properties are invited to highlight offers to the attending travel agent community and are encouraged to create incentive packages that encourage sales within 2 to 3 weeks after each show. Training Update
Social Media Marketing for Tourism
The use of Social media has become an integral part of any marketing campaign. On April 4th we are an offering a full day workshop facilitated by Adriana Serna, Director of Communications for the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA) that will demystify the use of the various social media platforms.
The workshop will be held at the ABHTI and the cost is EC$400.00 for AHTA members and EC$500.00 for non members.

Wedding Planner & Coordinator Certification Course

We are bringing back our Wedding Coordinator Certification two day workshop from April 12th to 13th. This two day event will teach you how to be a successful wedding planner. We have partnered with a very credible, and reputable organization called the The Wedding Planners Institute of Canada Inc . This course will be facilitated by Ms Sue Morris, certified wedding specialist, and will start from 9 – 5pm (both days) at the Antigua Barbuda Hospitality Training Institute. This certification program has a cost, but we have received a discounted rate that can only be given through our Association.  Please see the attached registration form.  Our fees are EC$1500 members, and EC$1750.00 for non-members.

WSET Wine Certification Courses May 30 - June 3rd

Get trained and certified with our internationally-recognized qualification wine courses, WSET!  London’s Wine & Spirits Education Trust (WSET) was established in 1969 to provide high quality education and training in wine and spirits primarily to persons working in Food & Beverage, Restaurants, and Wine & Beverages Suppliers.
Learn about how wine is made, systematic approach to tasting wine, factors influencing the style of wine, food and wine pairing, label terminology, sweet wines and fortified wines, and much more!

Level 1 Wine Certification Course - This course prepares front-of-house staff in food & beverage operations. It provides basic product knowledge by providing an introduction to wine, wine service and a knowledge of food & wine pairing. Level 1 is a two day course and the cost is EC$1,800.00

Level 2 Wine Certification Course - This course is very popular with wine and spirit employees because it gives students excellent all-round product knowledge. The course is a favorite among consumers and enthusiasts.  Classes focus on the key grape varieties and regions of the world, and principle varieties of spirits. Level 2 is a three day course and the cost is EC$2,500.00

Half Moon Bay to Sponsor Antigua Sailing Week
Antigua Sailing Week is delighted to announce Half Moon Bay as an official resort sponsor for the 2016 event. New $15 Billion Hotel project in Antigua

Antigua and Barbuda has signed another major development deal, this time a project by Antigua and Barbuda’s Ambassador to Iraq, Ahmed Abbas Alewi, who is spearheading a major mixed-use development. The project will be done in phases, with a total of investment of around $1.5 billion USD.
Located on 93 acres of Pensioner’s Beach in Antigua, the project will include a hotel luxury housing, a water park, an indoor mall including a movie theater, among other amenities. Full story here

Sandals guests continue generous giving at Villa Primary
Teachers at the Villa Primary School are now better equipped to provide the highest quality education to their students following a generous donation by Sandals Grande Antigua guests Jeff and Aleshia Figgins, who raised over US$4,200 to purchase the supplies.
The Figgins, who were married in Antigua in 2013, have been returning here annually ever since. In between vacations, the couple from Bangor, Maine, raised funds to help supply the school with its wish list. Full story here
Antigua Sailing Week Launches LIAT Schools Art Competition for 2016
Antigua Sailing Week is delighted to launch the 2016 LIAT Schools Art Competition. In October, LIAT, The Caribbean Airline will celebrate 60 years of service, connecting our region and connecting the people of the Caribbean.  It seems fitting therefore that the theme for the competition this year concentrates on how our region connects with the world.                       
David Evans, LIAT’s CEO says: ‘The theme this year is “LIAT, The Caribbean Airline celebrates 60 years of service, connecting our region and connecting the people of the Caribbean.” However we are focusing on more than just LIAT and how we assist in connecting people from around our region; we want the children to focus on our oceans also, as the longevity of the human race will be determined by the health of our oceans.’
Participants aged from 5 to 18 years will compete in three age groups as well as for a people’s choice award voted for on the LIAT Schools Art Competition Facebook Page (  LIAT, The Caribbean Airline is encouraging children to think creatively about what they and the rest of the population do in, on and with our water, and about conserving and protecting our water.
Deadline for entries is Friday April 15th and entries can be left at the Antigua Hotels and Tourist Association office on Newgate Street, St. John’s or at the Antigua Sailing Week office upstairs at Antigua Yacht Club Marina in English
