The UK abolishes the Air Passenger Duty (APD) for Kids

The Caribbean is celebrating the abolition of the Air Passenger Duty (APD) for children 12 years of age and under starting in May 2015 as announced yesterday by British Chancellor George Osborne. Additionally, Chancellor Osborne promised to eliminate the APD for children 16 years of age and under starting May 1, 2016.

Thursday, a delegation comprising the AHTA and the ABTA along with tourism stakeholders from Galley Bay, the Verandah, Jolly Beach, Cocos and National Tours will be departing for Guadeloupe where they will be promoting the destination. On Friday and Saturday the delegation will be creating awareness amongst shoppers at the Destreland Shopping Mall and on Friday evening will be presenting to the travel trade at the Auberge de La Vieille Tour
Elite Island Resorts takes Antigua on a London Drive
Branded cabs with uniformed drivers hit the UK streets to shout Antigua

The Elite Island Resorts Group, a collection of beachfront properties in the Caribbean, has taken to the road to spread the word and raise awareness of Antigua and St James’s Club & Villas. This marks another campaign in ongoing marketing efforts that underpin the group’s support of the local economy and promotion of the destination. In partnership with the Antigua Tourist Board, the resort group has put 20 Antigua branded cabs on the streets of London for the next two years. Featuring an all over wrap around design with images of Antigua and St James’s Club & Villas, visibility for the campaign will be extremely high:

Tropical Adventures does it again ! 

Tropical Adventures has again captured a prestigious Princess Cruise Lines Award for the fourteenth year out of the last fifteen years, this time for its Mystic Cruise Lobster Lunch a new tour only offered to Cruise Lines a couple of years ago.

Princess Cruise Lines renowned for its upmarket and eminent Cruises have their passengers rate their tours for quality, service and content, and this year Mystic Cruises Lobster Lunch has been awarded the prestigious honour for Winter 2013/2014 at an award ceremony held on board the Royal Princess in Antigua on 27th November 2014.

Last week saw the 2nd edition of the HR Breakfast Club. The guest speaker was Nancy Currie from Crossroads who addressed the participants on the topic of Employees' Mental Health. For more information on the HR Breakfast Club contact Anthea at the AHTA office.
Financial Controller's Breakfast Meeting.
Following the successful introduction of the HR Breakfast Club, it was considered high time that we resurrect the Financial Controller’s Meetings and have decided to adopt the same format. All Financial Controllers, not just hoteliers, are invited to the first meeting on Thursday December 11th at 8.30am in the conference room at the AHTA Office on Newgate Street.

The first meeting will be an informal one so that FC’s can meet and get to know each other and decide on the meeting plans going forward. This is also an opportunity to share any issues that you are facing at this time.

There will an EC$30.00 contribution towards a simple breakfast that will be provided.

New Tourism Action Agenda for Antigua & Barbuda

Antigua & Barbuda will implement a new tourism action agenda, following consultation with more than 50 tourism stakeholders.The plan will focus on 3 destination stewardship initiatives: the development of a sustainable tourism strategy, new community-based cultural tourism products, and the mapping of cultural heritage sites. Gaston Browne Administration Inks another Multi-Million Dollar Investment Project

The Gaston Browne Administration last week demonstrated that it is serious about its promise to make the sister island of Barbuda a major contributor to the economic development of the twin island state when Prime Minister the Hon. Gaston Browne and international film star Robert De Niro signed a Memorandum of Agreement for a Hotel investment project valued at over US $250 Million. Full story here
