Upcoming Trade Shows
Next week the AHTA will be attending the Boston Globe travel Show in collaboration with the ABTA from Friday February 6th to Sunday February 8th. This show traditionally attracts well over 20.000 visitors from New England, many of which are actively looking to get away from the cold for a warmer destination. More details can be found here. If you are interested in attending or providing promotional material contact Neil in the AHTA Office.

In February (21st & 22nd) we will be heading to California for the Travel & Adventure Show at the Long Beach Convention Centre. This is the largest of the Travel & Adventure Shows in the US with over 32.000 visitors last year. Last year Antigua received over 5,000 visitors from California making it one of largest source markets in the US. For more details on the Travel & Adventure Shows click here. French & Italian classes restart next week. Hurry space is still available
The next 12 week term of French classes will start from February 2nd & 3rd.  
Mondays (Intermediary   5:30pm – 7:30pm)
Tuesdays  (Beginners   5:30 – 7:30pm)     
Our second term of Italian classes will start from February 5 & 6th. Beginners 1 for newcomers and Beginners 2 for returning students.
Thursdays   Beginners 1   (5:30 – 7:30pm)
Fridays   Beginners 2  (5:30 – 7:30pm)    

The classes are held at the AHTA office located on Newgate Street in the Island House Building. The cost of the course is EC$400.00
Interested persons should complete a registration form ( French - Italian) and submit to: by Friday 30th January, 2015.

Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority appoints new overseas team
Marie Walker named Vice President, Sales & Marketing, USA and Canada
Jean-Marc Flambert named Vice President, Sales & Marketing, UK and Europe
Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister of Tourism, Economic Development Investment and Energy, the Honorable Asot Michael has announced the appointment of tourism executives, Marie Walker and Jean-Marc Flambert as Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority’s (ABTA) Vice Presidents with responsibility for Sales and Marketing for the twin islands tourism portfolio. Mrs. Walker is responsible for the United States and Canada and Mr. Flambert has responsibility for the United Kingdom and Europe.

Tourism Minister Asot Michael secures CTO debt reduction at Caribbean Tourism Organisation Ministerial Meeting in San Juan
Ahead of the opening of the annual CHTA Caribbean Marketplace convention in San Juan Puerto Rico, The Honourable Asot Michael, Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister of Tourism, Economic Development, Investment and Energy caucused with his fellow Caribbean Tourism Ministers on the way forward for the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO). The regional body is tasked with supporting the growth, development and marketing of regional tourism under the “One Caribbean” brand concept.

CHTA names industry veteran Frank Comito CEO, Director General

The Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA), representing 32 National Hotel Associations across the region, has appointed hospitality and tourism industry veteran Frank J. Comito as the new CEO and Director General. He assumes the post March 9, 2015.

Matt Cooper named Chief Marketing Officer for CHTA

The Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA), in a move to strengthen its management team, has created a new post and named marketing and media executive Matt Cooper as the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) for the association and, at the same time, promoted long-time Director of Operations and Events Vanessa Ledesma to Chief Operating Officer (COO).  The announcements were made by Frank J. Comito, newly named CEO and Director General of CHTA.  Cooper will start his new position on March 16, 2015. Full story here

Consolidation coming to an OTA near you
Expedia just snatched up Travelocity. And Orbitz is reportedly on the market. Just another week in the world of OTA consolidation.
Consolidation isn’t just confined to the hotel industry. As various reports have circulated in the past few weeks, several major online travel agencies might soon be scooped up by the plying paws of outside investors.

Most recently came news Friday morning that Expedia, Inc. acquired Travelocity from Sabre Corporation for $280 million in cash. The acquisition follows the 2013 strategic marketing agreement between Expedia and Travelocity, under which Expedia powered the technology platforms for Travelocity's North American websites along with providing Travelocity access to Expedia's supply and customer service program. - See more at:
