Showcase Antigua Barbuda -  Tourism partners hail tradeshow a huge success

Antigua and Barbuda’s Tourism Industry partners are expressing enthusiasm about the new business prospects for tourism in Antigua and Barbuda following a well-executed ‘Showcase Antigua Barbuda’ that promoted the destination to travel partners from the United Kingdom, Europe and North America, over the weekend.

Thirty-seven visiting Tour Operator delegates as well as close to fifty exhibitors consisting of hotels, villas, tour companies, airlines, and destination management companies attended the Trade Show organised by the Antigua Hotels & Tourist Association in partnership with the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, and held in The Hangar at the Executive Business Centre at the V.C. CHTA Education Foundation announces 2015 Scholarship Receipients

The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association Education Foundation (CHTAEF) this week announced the recipients of the 2015 scholarships. This year 84 applications were received and after a thorough review process 36 successful applicants were chosen and allocated US$141,800. Of these 13 were second year students and 23 new awardees. We are pleased to announce that Antigua had 5 successful applicants who collectively received US$16,300. Our congratulations go out to the persons listed below and we wish them every success with their studies

Latoya Gonsalves - $3,000 to CIA for Culinary
Tiffany Gordon - $1,500 to University of Technology for Culinary
Kempton McCalmont - $1,800 to UWI for Hospitality Management
Nadia Robinson - $5,000 to Monroe College for Hospitality Mgmt.
Gabrielle Thomas - $5,000 to J&W Rhode Island for Culinary

Antigua visits Expedia in Missouri.
On Wednesday May 20th Antigua & Barbuda visited Expedia in Springfield, Missouri to present the destination to the employees at their call center. The team comprised the AHTA & the ABTA along with representatives from Elite Island Resorts, Jumby Bay, Cocos and Sugar Ridge
New Hotel opens on Barbuda
Barbuda Belle officially opened its doors  on May 27th offering 7 beachfront cottages on the north west corner of Barbuda. Check it out at
A group of 18 generous visitors aboard the Carnival Splendor donated about 300 pounds of school supplies to the nation’s children when their vessel docked at Heritage Quay Saturday morning. Led by American Dawn Smith, who organised the group over Facebook, the visitors made their donation to the Sandals Foundation through its partner organisation Pack for a Purpose. The international organisation encourages travellers to take much-needed school supplies for the children in their chosen destination. The Sandals Foundation will distribute these and other supplies to children with the greatest need in time for the start of the new school year in September.

An invitation to professional Savoury Chefs and Pastry chefs to enter 
The Mango Pineapple Culinary Competition 2015
This is the 8th year of this competition for professional chefs featuring super varietal mangoes from Christian Valley Agricultural Station and Antigua Black Pineapples from Cades Bay Agricultural Station. Pastry Chefs, compete for the prestigious Madeleine Mc Comas Award for Best Pastry Chef, and the special Most Innovative Chef Award from students of ABHTI in this category. While Savoury Chefs compete for the prestigious Dame Gwendolyn Tonge Award for Best Chef, as well as a special Most Innovative Chef Award from students of ABHTI in this category. Awards are also offered for 2nd and 3rd place in each competition. 
The Deadline for Registration has been extended to June 15th 2015. To register e-mail or telephone 725-3254.
The Culinary competition allows chefs in Antigua and Barbuda  to show-off their cooking skills and impress the judges for the chance to claim the top chef awards.  Last year’s winners were all chefs from The Carmichael Restaurant at Sugar Ridge.   This is a great opportunity for members of your culinary teams and we welcome their participation.
We are looking forward to an exciting competition judged by an International Guest Chef, Jeffery Rotz along with other nationally acclaimed chefs and food reviewers.
The competition precedes the Christian Valley Mango Festival which takes place on July 18th and 19th.  The Mango Festival launched by the Antigua and Barbuda Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Agriculture to highlight the linkages between agriculture and tourism celebrates its 10 year anniversary this year.  During the two day Mango Festival, visitors to the serene setting of Christian Valley will enjoy a variety of mangoes to satisfy taste buds, and explore a range of stalls all offering products with a unique mango twist.

Antigua hosts luxury UK Tour Operator Annual Managers' Conference

Kuoni, one of the UK’s largest luxury travel and tour operators, has held its Annual Managers Conference in Antigua.
The luxury travel company, which is celebrating fifty years of operation in the UK market, has a long-standing relationship with the destination, and is known for featuring a selection of Antigua properties and selling luxury Antigua Holidays.
Over 45 shop managers, and senior staff including Managing Director of Kuoni, Derek Jones are in Antigua for the conference.

Antigua and Barbuda dominates at CTO Caribbean Week

Destination Recognised with Two Prestigious Awards and Asserts Presence at Media Market Place

The twin-island nation of Antigua and Barbuda is continuing on its path towards successfully dominating Caribbean Week 2015 by winning two awards yesterday, June 4th, during Caribbean Tourism Organisation’s (CTO) ‘Media’ day and displaying a unified, powerful presence at the ‘Media Market’.

The Honourable Minister of Tourism, Economic Development, Investment and Energy Asot Michael stated, “I am incredibly proud of the achievements Antigua and Barbuda has already accomplished these past few days. Winning the CTO Travel Media Award for Best Online Feature where we took first place in one of the 9 categories which recieved120 entries, is a remarkable achievement. Additionally being chosen by consumers and being awarded one of the Caribbean’s ‘Top 10 Traveler’s Choice,’ by TripAdvisor and their users is positive proof that Antigua and Barbuda is being recognised as a leader in Caribbean Tourism”

Antigua and Barbuda connect with top investors
Antigua and Barbuda is quickly setting itself apart at the annual CTO Caribbean Week with a multi-pronged approach for reaching out to relevant parties. Following the success of The Antigua and Barbuda Cocktail and Dinner with top influencers, affluencers, media and trade, the Government of Antigua and Barbuda hosted a luncheon with Christopher Forbes on Tuesday 2nd of June, with over 75 of the top investors, banking firms, real estate firms and moguls in attendance.

Antigua and Barbuda announces $400 Million Sunwing Travel Group development project
The Government of Antigua and Barbuda has announced another multi-million dollar partnership with Sunwing Travel Group. The 500-room all-inclusive resort under the award winning Royalton™ Luxury Resorts brand will occupy the famed white sands of Deep Bay, Antigua. Construction will commence this summer on The Royalton Antigua Resort & Spa, as well as a residential complex with over 200 condominium units. Slated to open in 2017, this $400M development is expected to represent 2,000 new jobs for Antigua and a massive injection to the economy in the form of incremental tourist dollars.

Antigua and Barbuda launched Caribbean Week with must attend event of the city
The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority started Caribbean Tourism Week with a splash by hosting the must-attend event of the city, with over 180 attendees including influential, top-tier leading media, and travel trade and executives. The event was held to celebrate achievements of the past year of The Government of Antigua and Barbuda, including the appointment of Special Economic Envoy, Robert De Niro, as well as to launch Caribbean Week in New York, the largest and most effective event on the Caribbean tourism calendar.

CHTA - Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting of  CHTA took place today June 11th at the Hyatt Regency in Miami. Neil Forrester was in attendance to represent Antigua & Barbuda.
