Now Carnival is over and a new season is just around the corner. Once again training is our focus this month with our course on "Effective Food & Beverage Management" taking place next week facilitated by Bill Moore (see below).
This week we welcomed the Barbuda Express as a new member and the photo above taken from their website reminds us that we are a twin island destination. (see item below).

AHTA Offers Food & Beverage Management Training

The Antigua Hotels & Tourist Association (AHTA) is hosting an “Effective Food and Beverage Management” workshop that will equip participants with the tools to increase profit margins by streamlining kitchen operations.

The five-day course, being held at Tradewinds Hotel from August 18-22,is geared towards chefs, sous chefs, restaurateurs and anyone involved in managing Food and Beverage operations.

Sandals Foundation Supports Camp Grow 2014

Another lucky set of the nation’s youth will get the opportunity to explore the different facets of Antigua and Barbuda’s ecological resources and agriculture, while fostering responsible environmental stewardship.

Launched recently, Camp GROW (Gaining a Respect for the Outdoors and our World), a partnership between The Environmental Awareness Group (EAG) of Antigua & Barbuda, and the Gilbert Agricultural & Rural Development (GARD) Centre, once again received the financial backing of the Sandals Foundation for the fourth consecutive year.

Singulari, Antigua's first mega resort to create 1000 jobs

Developers behind the country’s first mega resort say job fairs to hire hundreds of locals to help build it will be staged within weeks. Groundbreaking on the US$1bn multi-hotel, residential and commercial project is scheduled for this autumn with construction due to begin early next year.
Named ‘Singulari’ in tribute to its unique design, the mammoth 1,600-acre development will be the largest of its kind in the Caribbean – 50 per cent bigger than the regionally-heralded Baha Mar resort being created in the Bahamas.

In addition to the employment opportunities, Singulari is being lauded as a major feather in the nation’s tourism cap and further proof of growing investor confidence in Antigua & Barbuda. Read More

 
LIAT Reorganises Its Commercial Department
 
LIAT has announced changes to its commercial structure in order to bring a much sharper focus on revenue generation.
Mr. Lloyd Carswell, an internationally experienced Chief Commercial Officer is being appointed in this role on an interim basis for 3-4 months.
Reporting to him will be an interim Director of Commercial Operations (DCO) with responsibility for Revenue Management, Network Planning and Scheduling, Distribution, and Global Sales, and a Director of Commercial Delivery (DCD) with responsibility for Sales & Marketing, Customer Experience, and Cargo.
The DCO will be based in Antigua and the DCD in Barbados.
These changes will entail the move of six positions from Barbados to Antigua, although only five of these positions are currently occupied by LIAT staff in Barbados.
The roles of Sales and Marketing, Customer Experience, and Cargo, under the leadership of Leesa Parris-Rudder, will remain in Barbados.

Early Registration Opens Aug. 12 For Caribbean Travel Marketplace 2015 At The Puerto Rico Convention Center

Early bird registration for Caribbean Travel Marketplace will open Aug. 12. Members are advised to keep a look-out for an email notification which will provide a link to early registration on this date. The region’s largest and most important marketing event will be held Jan. 28-30, 2015 at the Puerto Rico Convention Center in San Juan. Early bird supplier registration packages start at $1,339 for a small booth with one delegate and schedule, $2,568 for a large booth with two delegates and two schedules, and $2868 for a mega booth with two delegates and two schedules. Hotels with 75 rooms or less and attractions can take advantage of the shared booth option at $939, which includes one delegate and one schedule. These fees are available until Sept. 4.
Caribbean Travel Marketplace is organized by CHTA, the Puerto Rico Destination Team, comprised of the Puerto Rico Hotel & Tourism Association (PRHTA), the Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC) and Meet Puerto Rico along with Host Sponsors and Strategic Partners Interval International, MasterCard and TravelZoo. UK Office Announce Winter FAMs 2014
Antigua and Barbuda UK Office recently concluded  four summer FAM trips during months of June and July bringing over 50 Top Tour Operators and Travel Agents from the UK to Antigua. The FAM trips were a major success for the destination and participating hotels and attractions.

England return to Antigua for Test on 2015 tour


England will play a Test match at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua next year for the first time since the abandoned game against West Indies in 2009. Antigua will now play host to the first of three Tests against England on 13 April, which will be followed by the tourists’ maiden Test in Grenada and a series-ending trip to Barbados.

Please remember to review your hotel settings for the 24-Hour Room Hold tool!  Click on the Bookings on Hold menu option and double check what sales channels are offering this special, review the discount that is set and add blackout dates as needed.  If you receive a booking on hold that needs to be modified or deactivated, you can go on the Bookings On Hold List and select the pending reservation that needs to be edited.  If you need assistance with this tool, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Regatta team.
