Last weekend Antigua and Barbuda were being promoted at shows on the East and West coasts.
The AHTA teamed up with the ABTA at the Travel & Adventure Show in Long Beach, California to attract more visitors from the west coast. This is the largest of the Travel & Adventure Shows with over 30.000 visitors and it dis not disappoint
At the same time the ABTA  along with representatives from Rex Resorts and Sugar Ridge/ The Inn at English Harbour took on the east coast at the Philadelphia Inquirer Show.
CHTA Education Foundation accepting scholarship applications from Antigua & Barbuda tourism & hospitality students
Antigua & Barbuda students and industry professionals are encouraged to apply for a scholarship from the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association Education Foundation (CHTAEF) so they can pursue higher education or professional development in the tourism and hospitality field. Scholarships are awarded with support from CHTAEF sponsors including Virgin Holidays, Interval International, FirstCaribbean International Bank, Johnson & Wales University and Florida International University.
CHTAEF is accepting applications for its scholarship program until March 30, 2015 at 5 pm Eastern Caribbean Time. Applications forms are availble here  Applications must be submitted with the approval of the AHTA in order to be considered.
Scholarships are awarded for study at any approved college or university including, but not limited to, the University of West Indies and local community colleges throughout the Caribbean.
Scholarship recipients will be advised of their approval status and, if accepted, the amount of their award, no earlier than May 25, 2015.

Supervisory Management Training is back for March 2015
The AHTA is pleased to announce that we will be launching the ninth session of our successful Supervisory Management Training courses starting on March 2nd in partnership with the University of the West Indies Open Campus. The course will run for a period of ten weeks. As previously the course will be facilitated by Ms. Shirlene Nibbs.
Although we have seen nearly 200 industry employees complete this course we still recognize that there are many more candidates who would benefit from this training so we encourage you to register your employees for this next session. It is open to middle management, supervisors and employees aspiring to be supervisors. It is not reserved for hotels but open to all AHTA members.
There will be two sessions per week on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5.15pm to 7.00pm. The course outline is in the attached document. The cost of the course is EC$600.00 per student.
The class is limited to 25 participants, interested persons should contact Anthea on the AHTA as soon as possible to sign up.
The Certified Pool Operators Workshop has been rescheduled for March 10th and 11th.
This two day workshop will be held at the ABHTI.
The cost is ES$950.00 for AHTA members and ES$1080.00 for non-members.We still have a few spaces available. Interested persons should contact Anthea in the AHTA office as quickly as possible so that course material can be ordered.

Travel & Adventure Show Washington DC
The second largest largest of the Travel & Adventure Shows will be in Washington DC on March 7th & 8th. The AHTA and the ABTA will be attending this popular show, last year there were 21,000 visitors to the show. Marie Walker wraps up successful sales mission to Toronto

Marie Walker, Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority’s, (ABTA) recently appointed Vice-President of Sales and Marketing for North America, today completes a weeklong sales mission to Canada incorporating meetings with hotel representatives, the media and tour operators.

During her visit to Toronto, Walker, who assumed her new role on January 15th this year, met with six Canadian based hotel representatives who between them are responsible for the Canadian marketing of 12 properties including such iconic resorts as Sandals, Carlisle Bay, Rex properties, Hermitage, Jolly Beach and Cocos.

Her meetings included discussions with leading tour operators Air Canada Vacations, Travel Brands (formerly Thomas Cook) and WestJet Vacations. She additionally held meetings with two luxury travel magazines and hosted a luncheon with prominent members of the Canadian travel trade media accompanied by the Antigua and Barbuda Consul General in Toronto, Mrs. Ann-Marie Layne and members of the ABTA’s Canadian team.

“It’s been a pleasure renewing business relationships in Canada,” said Walker, who has over 25 years of tourism marketing experience promoting the Caribbean. “We are very excited to work with these valuable partners and are looking forward to making Antigua and Barbuda ‘the buzz of the town’.”

The Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority – UK Office, participated in the Cricket Expo at Lord’s Cricket Ground. Cricket Expo is the only exhibition that brings together cricket clubs and businesses that operate within the Cricket market. Over 150 cricket clubs from London and the South East of England visited the expo, which provided some very strong leads for the destination.  Antigua & Barbuda and Jolly Beach offered a 5 night competition prize which has been sent out to the entire database of 7,300, promoted on  and via social media  which has 14,000 clubs following. 
Italia Economia Antigua 2015
The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority in collaboration with The Inn at English Harbour, hosted producers of the Italian programme ‘Italia Economia’, in January, as they filmed various aspects of Antigua’s tourism offerings.
This week, Italia Economia, featured Antigua in a 60 minute travel documentary, which aired on major satellite channel  platform Sky Italia.  The programme re-airs on March 3.  Click the image above to view video.

CHTA names Vanessa Ledesma-Berrios Chief Operating Officer

Emil Lee, president of  CHTA announced that longtime employee Vanessa Ledesma-Berrios has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer making her the first female to hold such a commanding  position within the CHTA.  Vanessa will work along with CHTA's new executive team comprised of Frank Comito, Chief Executive Officer and Matt Cooper (Chief Marketing Officer), to execute the association's strategic plans and serve the membership of 32 National Hotel Associations and over 600 hotels and 300 allied members
