Leading a new era of international cultural exchange by exporting
American creativity and crafting global relationships.
December 2021

A Note from Carole and Andrea

We hope that you and your family are well this holiday season.

Generous supporters like YOU have made it possible for American Dance Abroad to continue to expand international visibility for American dance and provide support and resources to dance professionals, especially as the arts continue to recover from the pandemic.

But there is still more work to be done. In order to continue to support the resurgence of American dance internationally we need your help. You can safeguard ADA’s programs, specifically Rapid Response travel subsidies, so that we can continue to support American Dance's international presence.

The Rapid Response program, through your support, has been able to help facilitate more than 75 artists traveling to more than 55 countries. By making a gift, you are ensuring American dance companies and artists can say “yes!” to perform, teach, collaborate, set work, or conduct creative research outside of the U.S..

American Dance Abroad is deeply devoted to strengthening international visibility and opportunities for the breathtaking artistry of American dance. YOU can make all the difference. Would you be willing to make a donation, whatever you can give, to help us keep American dance present on the international stage?

With gratitude and best wishes for the Holiday Season! Thank you.

APAP 2021: In-Person & Online

APAP is offering both an in-person and an online conference in 2022---making the most of meeting together in-person in New York City, while also maximizing access, engagement and convenience through the online platform.

The in-person conference will take place January 14-17, 2022, and the online conference happens January 10, 11 and 13, and also includes some events that will overlay the in-person conference. There will be free and open-to-the-public pre-conference activities from December 6-8, 2021.

At APAP|NYC+ 2022,  you can count on interactive and timely sessions gleaned from field colleagues and curated in partnership with the APAP conference committee and industry leaders. This year’s programs will feature expert and inspiring speakers and will focus on actions we can take to rebuild our business, successfully advance our equity and 10/20/30 efforts, hire and retain staff, and support artists and their work.

Dance Hypha's mission is to create a stylish, unified, online global casting platform. By establishing a user-friendly catalog of talent, a straighter line between choreographers, directors and dancers becomes possible.
Chelsea Factory will offer residencies in music, dance, theater and film at its 14,000-square-foot space in Manhattan.

Julie Saltzman Kellner on the theater industry: "Family is second. Any other aspirations are second. Being sick is second."

If you're an early-career choreographer, your needs are likely many and your resources few. There's rehearsal space to rent, dancers to gather, schedules to align—and that's not including the all-important creative labor of making the dance itself. But setting up a supportive working environment where dancers feel safe is a piece of the puzzle that you shouldn't neglect.
