Newsletter September 2016

Good morning everyone!

So much to tell you about in this newsletter, I didn't know where to start!! I just loved watching the Olympics and I don't know about you, but the closing ceremony is always a bit sad!!! I just love the inspiring energy that radiates from the individuals competing to be the best in the world at something!!!  With this in mind I came up with this month's quote ….make sure you don't leave without reading it!!

Thank you so much for all you entries this year for the holiday photo competition!  I was thrilled and overwhelmed with the number of entries as well as the quality!!  Thank you all of you who took the time to find your favorites and send them onto me, I wish I could make you all winners!  Check out the winner below...and well done!!!

Also, if you are planning on a fall family shoot, please get in touch soon, this is by far my busiest time and I wouldn't want to miss you because the schedule is full!  You can reserve your date by just getting in touch and making the session payment and this month's offer will help to get you going...see below.

The latest and greatest comes from a beautiful shoot over the summer, with some lovely people!!!! I'm sure there must be a correlation between hours of sunshine and average size of smile!!!

Thanks so much for reading and enjoy your September!!

Latest and Greatest

Those of you who know me, know that some of my favorite images are ones where the subjects aren't focusing on the camera.  I also love the really close up ones…particularly of kids. This family and these children were so cute, I thought I'd share a few of the more casual images…they might not make it on a canvas, but they are often the images that tell more of a story about their character! :-) Of course I have included 3 of my favorite portraits too! Thank you so much for choosing me for your family photographer, I enjoyed every minute!!!

Summer Holiday Photo Competition - Results!!!

I love love love!! running my summer holiday photo competition and with every year I run it, the competition gets tougher!  Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to go through and choose their favorite holiday photos and send them onto me!  Believe me, I know how busy we all are especially when the kids are off school so I really do appreciate it.    It was so difficult to choose a winner from all the entries…the collection was very diverse and there were many with great qualities.  Actually, I loved all of your photos and if you are not the winner for this year, please, please don't let that deter you for 2017!!!  Onto the winner for 2016 - ‘Through the Looking Glass’.  I love so many things about this image -

- the contrast between the rainbow colors that the little girl is wearing and the natural colors of the background.
- the light on her hair is gorgeous.  It is not too strong to make the exposure difficult and create serious shadows from the barn, but strong enough for you to see the direction of it.
- I like the perspective and the angle of the barn and the rickety look of it.
- the texture detail in the roof of the barn is awesome!
- the story of the image is also really intriguing…what is she looking at?  The viewer is almost teased because, the subject is on the side of the frame so there is lots of space to see what they are looking at (also another great feature), but we still can't see exactly what she is looking at!!!

Congratulations!!!! Chelsea - a great photo!

Little Ditty About My Own Camera Fun - Oakland Zoo

A trip to the zoo is always filled with fun and unexpected moments!  Here are some images from our recent visit to Oakland Zoo…

I think my favorite is the Lemur.  The light is just so lovely and she seems to be concentrating so hard on something she can see outside the frame…I'm sorry I can't expand on what that might have been, but….it definitely adds value to the image!

I also love the toddler's shoe…this was taken from the sky ride!  You can't believe how many shoes there are dropped on the grass from kids!!!  Its all in the Buffalo zone, so I guess it's not a priority to get them back.

The Zoo is developing a 'California Trail' area , some of which is due to be finished in spring of 2017 but most in Summer 2018.  I think its such a good idea….and will include animals that used to live in California such as Grizzly bears and Bison and those that still have Ca as their home such as Mountain lions bald eagles etc.  Check out this link for more info -
