2nd Annual Social: Wed June 27, 2018, 6 pm+

Join us for a fun evening in a beautiful setting, rain or shine!  Get to know others in MGS while enjoying a drink and/or meal (everyone will have separate tabs).

Please let Tara know in advance if you're planning to come, and how many people, so the restaurant can plan for staffing. Friends and family are welcome. Walk-ins also!

RSVP:   taragenealogy@gmail.com.

MGS Annual Survey:  please complete before June 30

We would like your feedback.  It helps us decide what kinds of speakers to reach out to now.  Many speakers require booking a year in advance.  It also helps us understand if there are any new ideas we should be exploring.

Our survey is 9 simple questions. Click the pink button here:

We have a winner!

We pulled a name out of a bucket and the winner is Pamela Strohm. Pamela won a free 6-month subscription to Ancestry.com, World Explorer version, a $149 value. The names in the bucket were all who paid 2018 MGS membership dues by Saturday May 19. Thank you to everyone who made a contribution to our non-profit organization. Your financial support enables us to hire 5 genealogy speakers a year, enriching our collective understanding of new techniques and advances in the vast, complex area of ancestry research. Being a society of active members also creates the opportunity to meet and mingle with others here in Fairfield County with a shared interest in discovering their family roots.

Join our board!  Why not you?

We have a need for new board members.

Being an MGS board member is interesting, not a big time commitment, and fun. We are unpaid volunteers with enthusiasm for ancestry research and sharing our knowledge with others.

Board members do organizational planning for the most part, and share administrative activities like creating newsletters, crafting emails, managing membership, treasury, arranging for speakers, overseeing our facebook page, keeping our webpage current, and other activities during the year like providing complementary genealogy assistance upon request.

Being on a board is an excellent opportunity for developing management skills.  If you're in the job market still, you can add it to your resume.

Come to any of our board meetings to listen in, decide if you're interested.  Our next board meeting is Monday September 10 at 7pm.  Or contact any board member by email or phone.
WHAT'S IN A NAME?

The Middlesex Genealogical Society (MGS) name was created years ago.  The original founders of our group lived in the Darien Connecticut area.  They adopted the word "Middlesex" because Darien was part of Middlesex Parish, Connecticut in colonial days.

Today, most members and friends of MGS live in Fairfield County, Connecticut.  The majority of our members today had ancestors who first settled in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.  Our genealogy interests lead to villages, towns and cities all over the world.

Why did I get this email?

  • You're a current or former paying member.
  • You presented at one of our meetings in the past.
  • You came as a guest to one of our Saturday speaker meetings at the library and signed the sign-in sheet.
  • You may have met with one of our volunteers at a Genealogy One-on-One or other outreach event.
  • You contacted someone in our organization for genealogy research advice.
Either way, we're happy to keep you in the loop about new speakers and programs. If you aren't interested, simply "unsubscribe" and we won't email you again.

If you're a guest, feel free to come again for free to any of our speaker events. We hope you'll find our programs so interesting, and helpful, that you'll become a member someday soon.  A $25 contribution spread over 5 speaker meetings is less than half the price of a movie ticket per speaker.
Join our active group on Facebook, now 90 members!
