Midwives Supporting Midwives and Families In Emergencies

As relief efforts continue in Texas and we all keep a watchful eye on Hurricane Irma, midwives are supporting one another and families in need. It is beautiful to watch the extreme generosity of midwives in Texas and Louisiana toward each other and most especially toward birthing families. No one is asking, “What kind of midwife are you?” Midwives, regardless of credential, are working together to provide care to displaced families.

Why “Collaborate?”
The Midwives Alliance of North America Conference is not “solely" MANA this year — MANA is hosting the annual conference in collaboration with the California Association of Midwives Foundation. In the spirit of working together to design and host a fantastic event for California-based midwives and midwives coming together from around the country and around the world, the theme of “Collaborate” was selected!
Midwives, student midwives, doulas, birth workers, social justice advocates and consumers are all welcome to participate. Attend for the duration of the event, Nov 3 - 5, or choose to be there for even a day. Half- and full- day pre-conference workshops will take place on Thursday, Nov 2, prior to the Gala Conference Opening that evening. The ALSO full-day post-conference will happen on Monday, November 6.

We’re planning a full schedule of social and networking activities including: Friday evening harbor cruise fundraiser for FAM and MANA; Saturday night dance with the band No Small Children — a rockin’ all-female rock group of teachers by day and rockers by night; and a local birth center tour on Sunday afternoon (to name just a few!!). See here for the schedule of special events, and remember to book your hotel room soon.

Nominations are Open for MANA Board Positions

Nominations are now open for the positions of Vice President, Treasurer, and Director of Events. Anyone may nominate a current MANA member who meets the qualifications needed for that position. Please make sure your choice of nominee is willing and able to fill the position. Elections will take place in January and February. Newly elected board members will be mentored through the winter and take over their positions at the spring board meeting.
