MANA Wants YOUR Voice at the Center of All We Do!

Join us to learn more about the new Membership Advisory Council.

Date: Thursday, April 7th
Time: 3 pm eastern
Location: Online meeting - join us from anywhere you have an internet connection!

YOUR voice is critical to the Midwives Alliance future programs, advocacy, and policies. Join us for the launch of the new Membership Advisory Council (MAC). MAC was designed to ensure member input is woven into every aspect of our work. Born out of member feedback at the most recent MANA gatherings, the MAC creates a clear system of member communication and representation at the Midwives Alliance. We look forward to hearing from you.

California Midwives Begin Medicaid Enrollment Process

Thanks to a 2015 legislative and advocacy initiative by the California Association of Midwives (CAM), the state of California is in the process of enrolling the first licensed midwives into Medi-Cal, California's Medicaid program.

CAM has been working with the state Medi-Cal office on the enrollment process. New forms to enroll Medi-Cal midwives became available on March 2nd. CAM leadership is very excited as a number of midwives are already applying. To facilitate the process CAM has held a series of webinars to update and educate members on new policies and enrollment processes. California looks forward to increasing access to licensed midwives through Medi-Cal. Learn more about the enrollment process at CAM.

Arizona Midwives File Historic Lawsuit To Protect Client Privacy

From the Arizona Association of Midwives website:

In an historic action and after years of unsuccessful attempts to gain the support and cooperation of the Arizona Department of Health Services (AzDHS), the midwives of the Arizona Association of Midwives filed this legal action in superior court against the state of Arizona demanding that AzDHS cease increasing regulatory burden on and persecution of the midwives of Arizona.

AAM filed a lawsuit against the AzDHS seeking to stop the illegal investigation into midwives' charts that contain private health information, stop the aggressive enforcement of new rules that illegally reduced the midwives' scope of practice, relieve midwives of the increased administrative burden, and stop the enforcement of unconstitutional midwifery laws that violate the right to refuse vaginal exams, STI testing, and medical treatment. View the legal filing here. Keep up to date at the Arizona Association of Midwives website here.
