To be a board member of the Midwives Alliance is a big commitment. There are weekly calls, semi-annual meetings in the spring and fall including the annual conference, and small group work between calls and meetings. Board members have reported working anywhere from 6-8 hours a week to well over 40! Board terms are three years with a two-term limit per position.
Board positions are volunteer, but MANA will cover expenses for travel, including meals and hotel and the annual conference registration. Like all volunteer and non-profit work, at times you may find yourself donating or covering expenses as a way to help MANA. (Although this is certainly not expected, many of us do.) Being a volunteer at MANA is one of the hardest jobs you will ever do, but the access to mentorship, leadership & learning as well as the ability to participate are all truly rewarding.
The Midwives Alliance of North America has been the professional association unifying midwives since 1982. MANA was formed by a grassroots group of leaders who, in just over 33 years, have lead MANA to be involved in groundbreaking innovative education and credentialing, participation in International Midwifery including membership in the International Confederation of Midwives, and most notably, our Division of Research, which includes both data collection and top researchers in the field of out of hospital birth. MANA is best known for our conferences, which are diverse, inspiring, fulfilling and educational – providing space for midwives of all backgrounds to come together and unite. We hope, as MANA moves ahead with a newly structured board, that you will help bring us forward with even more progress for midwives over the next 30 years.
We are ALWAYS happy to do a video or phone chat with you to answer any questions and tell you more about our work at MANA. We hope you will join our MANA family to be a strong voice for ALL midwives! Be in touch with Vicki Hedley with any questions you may have about any of the available positions!
